Holding on to the parent in response to the new environment, when the toddler is ready to be examined the clinician will experience eye contact, smiling, or talking with nurse
Cooperative and interesting in helping the clinician, autonomous behavior and talkative
Interested in the body and learning how the instruments work, level of awareness where they request privacy
Lots of movement making the toddler difficult to examine, dependency on parent leading to negativism
May be very timid and fearful about shots or any sort of invasive procedure, may lose interest so games to keep them occupied is suggested
Shyness so it is important to break the ice by engaging the child with their interests and developing trust, basic competency may not be up to par

Double the height by age 4, brain has reached adult size by age 8
Rapid growth/endocrine & hormonal changes, weight gain, increase in % body fat-especially in girls
Malnutrition during early years of life: vitamin c/e and iron deficiencies, no weight gain
overweight – over nutrition, no activities, no growth
Calcium or iron deficiencies specifically in girls, skipped meals/too much fast food, peer pressure
