gradually enforced the emancipation, ultimately decreasing the population of slavery. On the other hand, the slave population in the Southern states was rising. This was caused by the mentality of the North vs. the South. The South believed that the economy of America would drastically change if slavery was abolished; therefore, they continue the immoral act and increase the populations of slaves to enhance the production of money while the North wants to completely abolish slavery by creating gradual emancipation laws which caused the slave population in the North to decrease and the population of the South to increase. I believe the Founding Fathers were in a sticky situation trying to keep both sides of the spectrum happy.
Despite this, I believe that everyone was afraid to put their words into action as seen in group 4’s document, most of the people wanted slavery to play itself out. This could be caused by fright or even laziness. Either way, I believe the Founding Fathers were too afraid to interfere with the course of slavery because it could cause Americans to hate or love them. Additionally, seeing these laws and being forced to obey them could link everyone to seeing the government as the same as the British government because of the enforced laws could be seen as impractical, especially in the south. This could cause an uproar and ultimately lead into Civil War, which of course happened. No matter the situation, I believe the Founding Fathers should have taken action because if they didn’t handle the situation, slavery would probably still be around
today.
