Fourteen Point Document Analysis
In the early 1900s the Russian government tried to make the world come under their ideals called Communism.The push for communistic rule erupted in war.The U.S would join the World War I (WWI) when the Germans sank US ships. President Wilson wanted more than justice, he wanted peace. He stated, that it was the United States job, “too vindicate the principles of peace and justice in the life of the world” (cite). President Wilson decided to lay out a plan of achievement. The Fourteen Point program document was meant to be a path to peace through the freedom of trade, communication, and establishment of the League of Nations.
WWI started in Sarajevo, Bosnia, on July 28, 1914, where Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophia were motorcading
through town before they depart. A group of men threw bombs at the couple, but failed when it bounced and rolled off the top of the top of the car and explode on the car behind. This alerted the Archduke and his security and they sped off only to go into an alley where another one of his assassinators would be. It lead to the duke and his wife to be murder with three shots too the duke and one in Sophia's, on June 28, 1914. The germans decided to blame russia for their deaths and on July 28 austria declared war on Serbia. In a week Russia, Belgium, France and Serbia had made an alliance against Austria-Hungary and Germany world war I has started.
The U.S tried their best not to get involved in the affairs of the East, as the war grew situations arose that proved too test their will to stay neutral. Great Britain is a big U.S supplier, this caused the U.S and Germany to be at arms with each other when Germany attempted to quarantine the British Isles.U.S ships that did travel to trade were either damaged or sunk. In May of 1915 several New York newspapers issued a warning from the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. The Germans warned that any Americans traveling on British ships in war areas did so at their own risk. To further their threat the sinking of merchant ships off the south of Ireland reminded the British Admiralty to alert the Lusitania to avoid the area or take precautionary action, such as zigzagging too confuse U-boats plotting the vessel’s course.
