Gregor sacrificed his freedom of will by working to support his family. He did all he could to provide them all they needed. Gregor’s family relayed on him not his father. He had to suffer in his job because of boss just to help his family. Gregor’s
family made all the choices for him; he couldn’t make any choices by himself. Without Gregor’s job his family wont be able to live.
Even though Gregor spent most of him time in order to pay off the dept that there father put them in, he had to put up with a cruel boss because of his father. And after all what Gregor did for his family and most importantly his father, when he turned into a bug his father isolated him from his family. His father didn’t respect anything Gregor did for him, and he proved that by throwing apples on him trying to kill him even though he knew it wasn’t Gregor’s fault.
When Gregor turned into a bug, he spent all his time in his room feeling ashamed and sorry for something he didn’t do. Gregor felt ashamed, so he isolated himself from everyone. He felt bad for putting his family through all of this even thought he had nothing to do with it. And on top of him suffering for his family, they did not support him when he needed them, though they blamed him and tried to kill him.
Gregor gave up on his own interests and wishes in order to help his family, and he went far away from everyone when he turned into a bug. The best theme that fits the Metamorphosis is isolation and self-sacrifice. Because first of all Gregor sacrificed his freedom of will by working all day to support his family. Second, when Gregor turned into a bug his father isolated him from the family. And last, Gregor spent his all his time in his room feeling ashamed for something he didn’t do.
