Freak: A Narrative Essay
I think Gwen reacted the way she did when she found Freak in the basement with Max because she knew that Max was his father’s son. I assume Gwen was shocked and scared because in the text, it read, “ She catches sight of me coming up out of the down under and it's like somebody shot her. Like she's scared out of her mind. Additionally, the text also read, “ the Fair Gwen grabs Freak and puts him in the wagon and I swear, she almost runs home, like if she doesn't get away quick something really bad is going to happen.”

First, I presume Gwen was surprised and frightened to see Max playing with Freak because she was afraid of Max due to the reason that Max’s father did a horrendous action that landed him a spot in prison. I know Max’s father

His choice can be harmless or harmful. Paul, took the opportunity to switch. But, the only way he got on Tangerine’s soccer team is because Paul’s mother, Mrs. Fisher got rid of the IEP form from his Cume Folder. In the book it states “ I just sort of reach down without think and pick up Freak and set him on my shoulders.” ( Philbrick 32 ). During this part of the book this part is included because it is a really important to the plot of the book. It is really important to the plot of the book because it is we're Freak the Mighty had started. It was the first time that Freak was riding on Max's shoulders. In the film this is also included because it is important to the plot of the book but also because this leads to an action based scene of the film were they are chased by Tony D. and his gang. The director kept this the same because without this part of the plot then the whole story would of changed. Freak would not be riding on his shoulders the whole book, they would of been caught by blade and his gang because Freak wouldn't of been able to see where all of them were coming from. Overall, although there are similarities and differences they are included for a reason. The major similarity is included because it is a very important part of the plot and a lot of the story would have been different if it were not…

Gwen is represented to the audience as a bitter, controlling judgmental, bossy woman. Throughout the play, Gow softens our attitudes towards Gwen various scenes of humour and anecdotes. However by the end of the play Gwen has shown personal growth through love. Act 4 is a powerful scene because Vic and Harry tell Jim and Gwen about Tom’s illness, through this scene we can see how Gwen has grown personally as she shows some emotion towards Vic and Harry that she wouldn’t normally show at the beginning of the play. Gwen continually relied on ‘Bex’ when times got tough and she couldn’t handle the situation. Through her personal through Gwen can hardly swallow the drug and is beginning to sort out conflict with her loved ones. This scene is juxtaposed to pervious scenes where Gwen walks away from problems or makes up excuses for them. Through her personal growth due to love Gwen has learnt to accept the life she is living and to be grateful that she isn’t going through what Harry and Vic are going through with their son…

This crucial information about Gwen’s death was hidden from the reader. Bobby also knew about Mandy’s death but never revealed that to the reader. Another example of Bobby’s unreliability is the fact that he never explained the reason behind his request from Gwen to lead his father to the fairground. Bobby knew his father was capable of killing her and yet he asked her to lead him there. "I told her if you ever caught up to her, to take you to the fairground.”…
