Freak Show Experiments
What do you think freak shows are? The dictionary says a freak show is, a sideshow at a fair, featuring abnormally developed people or animals. Meaning a person finds a person or an animal, most of the time it is a person, and show other people this person or aniaml. People most of the time have to pay to see the person or animal. I think it is right because if the people who started the freak show are nice they could give some of the money to the freak or disorded person. They could also maybe raise money to help people with the same disorder if the disorder has a cure. I think they also could ask the people not to laugh at the people when they are right in front of them. They, also to make sure they dont make fun of the freaks, could tour the costumers not let them free roam around. …show more content…

Also they couldn’t care less about the freaks so the customers could say what they wanted to say about the freaks in front of the freaks. The people would just free raom around with no one to watch them. I mean do you want to be made fun even though you’re different. If the people who start the freak show are selfish they should just show freak animals. So you’ve heard my opinions that I think that showing freak shows are right and wrong. I still think it would be better for everyone if someone did something like showing freaks they should just show animals instead. If we just show animals no one will be affended in any way. Unless the people are affended by the same disorder as the animal then they might be affended but thats a whole different

In the article “Freaks and Queers” by Eli Clare, the author discusses the origins and history of freak shows where “freaks”, “savages” and “geeks” were essentially the cause of big entertainments and businesses. Four main groups of people were categorized into “freaks”, which included disabled people, both white people and people of colour, nondisabled people of colour, nondisabled people of colour from the United States and nondisabled people with physically visible differences. Many were oppressed, marginalized as well as exploited not only by the public but also by the show managers and doctors. Freak shows entertained and brought a better sense of self-esteem and superiority to audiences. In addition, Clare describes the issues he has with…

Shows, such as “Fear Factor,” are prime examples of the abnormal steps normal people will take to obtain a few thousand dollars. Contestants eat raw animal parts, enter large tubs with scorpions or snakes, and dangle hundreds of feet above ground for the chance to win a cash prize. “Millions of people take risks to their health…

I disagree with Colier’s solution because I feel that is not enough to provide a solution. If one person chooses to not go, that is only one person. We would not have a global effect with this solution to solve the animal cruelty problem. There should be a world-wide event to show the effects of the circus shows on the species of animals that are in the show. We would not put people through rings of fire because it would be inhabitant. Animals have lives just like the human race. We should let them be and let them be themselves in the…

Vampires have always been an idea tossed around and portrayed differently through what other people see them as. Some see them as sparkly vampires that have an inevitable love for a human, and others see them as the cruel beasts that the origin stories conclude. In How to Read Literature Like a Professor, Foster states that one doesn’t have to be a vampire to have vampire- like qualities through their actions or thoughts. In A Tale of Two Cities, Marquis Evrémonde portrays these exact qualities and everyone soon learns of what he truly has done and meets his inevitable death in the end.…

People from different cities, and states come down just for this event. There are six stages, dozens of rides, and a full gallery’s worth of art, cool off zones, vendors, food and beverages. We were surrounded by the smell of popcorn and cotton candy. It felt like the carnival you liked to go to as a kid. Everywhere we went there were people dressed like rainbows. Everybody was dressed in so many colors, and dressed like clowns, with different costumes. The…

Animals used for entertainment is also another issue. Most people came to the zoo, circus at least once in their lifetime. Animals forced to do trick and entertain people. Do they look happy? Definity not. In the movie BlackFish, the killer whales has been separated and taken away when they were babies. They were forced to do things, if they resist, they will get hurt, or starving. Those killer whales were storage in the concrete box underwater. Live in those boxes extremely uncomfortable. Imagine people who live in prison for their whole life. Those people tend to show aggressive and violent behaviors. Killer whales are the same as well, which led to the attack of SeaWorld trainer Keltie Byrne.…

When animals such as the killer whale are forced to do tricks for human entertainment it can be damaging for them. They are large creatures who live in tanks most not in suitable size for the animal and many die a premature death. Zoos all the while try to make the animals as comfortable as possible and help save animals left for dead. In the recent years the Columbus Zoo rescued a polar bear cub since the mother abandoned it and the cub has been doing great ever since. Zoos try to make the animals live longer, feel safe and live a normal life, but not all zoos try to make this possible. Some zoos only do things to earn money and sell these poor animals to other places like the circus. Zoos, circuses and aquariums maybe a good idea, but as said in the article “it means that lending our voice to the voiceless matters.” We as people need to do the right thing for the animal not for the exploitation of them. I agree seeing animals in person rather than a picture and or a video is much more breathtaking and can be educational for kids. For the animals they are not in there natural habitat and are not able to do the natural things they would in the environments. Maybe meeting halfway for the people who agree with Zoos and other facilities for animals won’t be enough. For example in the article it says “... increase the quality of life in captivity,…

Zoos are like internment camps and should be shut down. Animals deserve the right to live out their lives in their natural habitat, not be the source of human entertainment. Zoos are more detrimental to animals than they are good for them, even though there are conservation efforts and educational purposes for having animals in captivity. The negative aspects far outweigh any positive effects when it comes to having animals in captivity due to poor living conditions, failure to educate, and psychological trauma.…

Some people believe the display of animals for human enjoyment is revolting because of establishments like Zoos and the infamous, Sea World. They look at these places and see the cold hard facts: animals are being torn away from their natural habitats, to be placed in artificial environments, where they often times get mistreated and taken advantage of. Protesters of such issues even go as far to compare this industry to the illegal sex trade, where people are kidnapped and forced to have sex against their will, for nothing in return. While this may seem over exaggerated, the argument…

When you think about the content and fibre of reality television there's really not much there. Many people feel that reality television is the best production to come from ABC, NBC and all the corporate conglomerates trying to make easy money. That's exactly what they are doing. Selling easily produced television to easily minded recipients. The first problem with reality TV is that it isn't even reality. As soon as a camera is placed in front of someone, they automatically think that they are actors. A true, original example of reality TV is Candid Camera, showing peoples real reactions to an unexpected situation. The primary basis for many of these new shows (but not all) seems to be to put people in painful, embarrassing, and humiliating situations for the rest of us to watch - and, presumably, laugh at and be entertained by. I believe the problem with all of these reality TV shows is the joke factor. All of these shows are a joke, it's like watching a daytime soap opera; only unfortunately visible at a prime time hour. It is really quite painful to witness the same poor saps going at it over the same girl or guy. The continuing popularity of these shows is a clear representation of the intelligence of North Americans. I say we rid of all reality TV and replace them with shows covering the lives of animals, which sadly would be more interesting.…
