Freak The Mighty Character Analysis

I was skeptical about one of my now good friends, Tristan. The reason for this is me and Tristan got into a fist fight in sixth grade. We fought because I thought he was trying to fight my friend, William because Tristan looked mean, after the fight we ended up talking and it turned out that my William and him were just messing around and it was all a misunderstanding. I judged Tristan because of his look and how he acted without knowing him, now we are good friends and play Clash Of Clans together. This anecdote relates to the story Freak the Mighty By Rodman Philbrick because I judged Tristan because of the way he looks, just as everybody did to Max at the beginning of the story but in the end they find out how they perceived him wasn't how Max really is.
If we were to judge him solely on his appearance, we might assume that he is strong, or tough, or even dumb. In fact when we first see him, he is in pre-school and is being called kicker and hates being touched and ends up being hated by everybody in the school. This shows that he is misunderstood and lonely. Max is also not liked by his grandparents because he looks exactly like his father Kenny Kane, also he doesn’t do any work and is put in the special need class. This shows that max is lonely and isn’t very smart. However, later we see him reading and writing books and not being judged by his grandparents or by his school anymore. This confirms/refutes our initial judgment by showing that Max is smart and hard working but was to lazy or unmotivated to show
