The effects of emasculating a person’s freedom can be much more detrimental than one assumes. And what is ultimately done, when on an endeavor to regain missing freedom, is considered brutal. The people of America are thankfully granted the right of freedom. For those in Oceania, they are not so thankful nor for the matter of fact are they even fortuitous. In this superstate, Freedom is taken away by inhibiting thoughts and actions through a language called NewSpeak. Everywhere in London, Winston notices a bunch of posters showing an individual looking down with the words, “BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!” everywhere he goes.
