Freedom Tower Persuasive Speech

It seem to be impossible for them to listen to everyone decision’s especially the victim’s family, a picture taken with the cornerstone for the foundation of the Freedom Tower, made from speckled block of granite from the Adirondack Mountains that written “To honour and remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and as a tribute to the enduring spirit of freedom, July 4th 2004”, in order to convince every public. In 2004, the Freedom Tower has been redesigned again by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill by adding more security concerns and construction only started at 2006. (DCN, 2008) In order to increase the hatred of Muslim, the Ground Zero Mosque had been approved by saying that not all Muslims are terrorist, which causing a
lot of Americans protest against it, as shown in below. From the intention, this is the incident that America government want it to happen.
The misunderstanding towards the religion is somehow controlled by the government too, to make sure that the wars toward the middle-east countries are being supported. However, there are still publics and officials who actually support in the building of the religious center in that area. (DCN, 2008) For example, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg praised a decision to allow an Islamic center to be built and explained “we may not always agree with every one of our neighbour. That’s life and its part of living in such a diverse and dense city. We also recognize that part of being a New York’s citizens is living with your neighbours in mutual respect and tolerance. It was exactly that spirit of openness and acceptance that was attacked on 9/11”. (Yin. S,
2010) Figure 8: Protest against the Mosque http://vividlyvintage.com/tag/december-7th/ In May 2nd 2011, there is a news about Osama bin Laden’s death at the corner of Church and Vesey Streets which is an important day to celebrate among the Americans, but unfortunately, no one see the death body of Osama bin Laden. (NYC, 2010) It is announces that the death body was thrown into the sea as he is not the person one should remember and at the same time to avoid any Al-Qaeda members to declare a war again, but is that true? At the same year also, Mayor Bloomberg gives a speech in which he urge that Americans should stop taking the site as “Ground Zero” but “The World Trade Center”, as Osama bin Laden had died. Forget about the past, hope for future. One World Trade Center also so-called as Freedom Tower, would be a new tallest building in New York, used to be a safest and stronger compare to old twin tower as it is due to the idea of “prevention of future terrorist attack”. (Browne. H, 2001) In term of technology, this tower receive air by sucking it, using special machines that are high up where the air is clean. At the central upright section for key safety features including water-proof lifts, there is a special fire-escape stairs and a separate staircase for emergency workers. To increase the protection of the building, glass wall is designed to protect building from explosions and extra strength of 1meter concrete casing protecting the central section and sprinklers. At 417m (1,368ft) high will be a ledge which marks the height of the destroyed old twin towers. Most importantly, the One World Trade Center represent the liberty of America with the 1776 feet height, is the year of America gaining liberty, and the name of Freedom Tower to replaced One World Trade Center, preventing a constant reminder of the incident. When one arrive to the pool, visitors will be confronted by the memorial that emphasizes the loss of life. One will only see the deep scar of New York City which will remember forever but definitely forget that or never think about why 9/11 incident would happen. From here one can see that, America government is forming another manipulation of people’s perception instead of showing the pools is especially for victim’s family.

In order to get support from the public, they do create a lot of stories to change someone’s perception. With that, the strategy of the intervention is to deconstruct the manipulation of the American political power by recreating two sculptures, which appear from the pool to 9.11m height, above the pool. It is difficult to control someone by walking and seeing, so before and after the entrances to the memorial will be remain the same, until the certain steps before one can see what is the sculpture, the floors which is surrounded the memorial will slowly disintegrate. This will act as an extension of the pools that still allow people to be reminded of the tragedy but it is only a matter of time that the truth will be revealed after one reach under the sculpture. The sculpture, which is the glimpse of the truth with a height of 9.11m symbolize the date of the 9/11 incident happen, visitors are no longer drawn to the overwhelming size of the pools but rather to the high and big volume of the sculpture above. The sculpture is designed to represent the freedom of being able to unwrap the truth behind the foundation of America’s power that is ever controlling. As one is exactly under the sculpture, the backdrop of the particular towers, especially the One Trade Center would be the main focus, where one can see through from the sculpture. From the entrance until where one stand under the sculpture, it is to tell a story of the memorial pool as a scar that is from the wrongdoing of home-grown political power of America that will eventually be unwrapped, only time will tell. This is to shake up the foundation of America’s believe and have the visitors make that connection of the site as a memorial place with the ever controlling power of the political power in America. Every year of September 11, both sculpture will lit up as it symbolize the idea of the truth being unwrapped. The truth of a belief that has been manipulated all this while by the power that the American’s trusted. Their own home-grown power.
