After breaking all the diet rules at the birthday lunch, Helen states that the French think that our faddy diets and food obsession are hilarious. Also, she believes that the French eat from every food group at every meal irrespective of how healthy or unhealthy the food may be.
Last Christmas, Helen and some of her French friends were invited for an aperitif and after eating, Helena said to her host ‘’thankyou for dinner’’. To her surprise, she was told that it was not dinner because there were no vegetables.
She also states that the French do not eat crisps or processed food, rather, they eat a well-balanced meal because they want to stay thin. She believes that if you think of eating well as the French do on a daily basis, you will possibly avoid carcinogenic processed food and remain thin.
Helena believes that French women have the same attitude towards exercise and they do food. They do not frequent the gym, rather every opportunity to push a child on a swing or walk up some stairs is seen as an opportunity to exercise. She was told by a French woman that she squeezes her pelvic floor when she is bored at a dinner party.
Finally, Helen is not scared about the report on red meat, nor does she particularly care about the theory that 5 portions of fruit and vegetable will protect her from cancer. She will continue eating what she wants and wait for the next fad that will send everyone in Ireland into spirals of despair.
