French Colonization In North America

The success of the French in North America was largely due to the associations they developed with the American Indians, and the fur trading that provided animal pelts that were in high demand throughout Europe. The French built missions and worked to convert the Indians to Christianity, they settled primarily in Canada and the Great Lakes. France attempted to pioneer several settlements throughout North America that failed because of war with other countries, bad weather and diseases. Even though the French population was extremely small compared to the English they were still a major contender in North America because of their relations with the Indians. The French had the support of American Indians in staggering numbers during the four wars with England.
Conquistadors came with explorers and Members of the Catholic Church to conquer and claim North America for Spain. Their reasons for coming to North America was mainly to spread religion, boost their economy, and add lands to Spain’s empire. Their ability to conquer even the fiercest of Indian settlements was due largely to the disease that they

The English colonies like Jamestown were crop based intended for trading, and then later became religious settlements. People came from England with plans on making not only their fortunes here, but building towns and bringing civilization to the new world. Common people came for jobs and opportunities to own land. The English did not want to convert Indians to Christianity, instead drove Indians off their lands.
