French Migration To America During The Colonization Of The 17th Century

The French settled in America during the colonization of the 17th century. King Louis XIV’s decision of stripping the Huguenots of their political rights unless they converted to Roman Catholicism was one of the main reasons of french immigration to America. The main places throughout America that the french settled was was Louisiana, New England, and New York. The first migration to America was during the 1660’s when New France was under military control. Many of the French immigrants came to the United States as families looking for change or opportunities. France faced problems in taking in large numbers of immigrants from different cultures. The French and Indian War was a war fought in 1763 between England and France, which affected immigration to North America. France lost the war and gave England control over the colonies through a treaty known as the Treaty of Paris. Some French customs were carried over to America
By 1924 there were over 4 million Italians in America. The most common reason for Italian migration was to gain religious freedom. Many Italians faced difficulties and received racial comments after settling down in America. Most Italians could not speak English and had dark, pigmented skin. Because of this they were only offered jobs referred to as “scabs”, working alongside the African American race and were treated with disrespect. Some of the jobs were construction, railroad, mining, long shoring, and industry. Without the immigrants having these jobs they would not get done, or would be done extremely slower. Construction and mining were two big industries at the time, making the demand for jobs and products high. Many Italians would lean towards the construction industry for their prior knowledge from past jobs. Italians made a huge impact on America's society, including culture, new foods, and certain
