Different types of friends

There is a saying that says ‘Life without friends is like the sky without sun’. Indeed, friends brighten our lives and make it easier. Thus, We all have friends, some of them have been in our lives for many years and others less, but have you ever noticed how every friend, each in his way, enhances our life? . in the article "All Kinds of Friends", Judith Viorst claims there are different kinds of friends who play different roles in our live: "convenience friends," "special-interest friends, cross-generational friends," and "close friends". I previously believed that all friends were the same, but after analyzing the friendships I’ve had since childhood until now, I came to realize that, indeed some of my friends fit into three of these categories.

. First there are the special interest friends. These people are your friends only because you share the same interest. I had a friend named .... who I got to know by sharing a tennis activity. We were friends without divulging our personal information. Sometimes I try to know a little bit about her so that we don’t have to always only talk about tennis, or get awkward silences. I have her phone number but I might not call her out of the blue ‘ just to say hi ‘. I still remember when I ran into her in the street, the conversations only last for a few minutes. I started with “HEY!! What are you doing here?” with a big grin,” and ended with a “okay, see you then!” And that’s about it. It’s the kind of friends who easily drift away from you once you start to lose contact.

The other category is ‘cross-generational friends’. According to viorst these are friends who have a wide age difference but are still able to connect in different arenas such as music and

The first category, the occasional friends, encompasses three friend types. The first one is the grenade. This type of friend is usually annoying and tough to be around but they serve a critical purpose. They make you look better by comparison. Slightly better than the grenade, is the jerk with the heart of gold. Like the grenade they are generally annoying but unlike the grenade they are genuinely good people, willing to apologies and make amends for being so annoying. The final occasional friend is the school or work friend. They are the people who help you get through the school or work day that you never really see anywhere else. As the name suggests, occasional friends are not the type of people one would hang out with every day.…

“Acquaintances we meet, enjoy, and can easily leave behind; but friendship grows deep roots”, (H.Jackson Brown, Jr.) Friends are people you enjoy hanging out with, and share a similarity with each other, while acquaintances are people you know slightly, but aren’t close to them. Many people have lots of Acquaintances, but not that many close friendships. There is a huge difference between having a close bond with someone, and knowing little about one person.…

Whether you were traveling past your local skatepark or even around town, you have probably seen an individual or group skateboarding. They may catch your eye when they’re preparing for a trick, while in your mind you think “ Don’t hurt yourself kid.” As a skateboarder for seven long years full of time and effort put into the activity, I have witnessed many first hand experiences of the way non-skaters may feel negative about and/or stereotype members of the skateboarding community. It is not necessarily that these individuals’ are wrong for thinking this way, however, they most likely are not informed about the history of skateboarding along with the many possible benefits of skateboarding. Skateboarding is an inexpensive, entertaining, and safe way to have fun and build friendships amongst a community. Understanding the history of skateboarding can be more difficult than you might assume, this is primarily because people have claimed to be the first…

The first realization I came to was that friends are more than people I may occasionally see in passing, or at social events. Although these people may be friendly and fun to be around, I consider them acquaintances, not friends. Unlike an acquaintance, a friend is someone with whom I genuinely enjoy being around and can call upon other than just when a favor is needed. Real friends know one another’s birthday, favorite color, pets’ names, parents’ names, etc. True friends will do whatever is necessary to ensure they are involved in each other’s lives.…

“Friends”, this word has so much depth but what exactly does it mean? A friend is a solid rock that provides assistance in time of need, a listening ear and, a personal support system. Abortion is a controversial issue but it should be discussed because it is happening, and is more widespread than we care to admit. If we truly care about life, then we must understand what is going on (Tan 2008). Ideally, pregnancy is a wanted and happy event for women, their partners and their families. Unfortunately, this is not always so. Around the world, millions of women every year become pregnant unintentionally. In the Philippines, as in other countries, some of these women are faced with a difficult choice: to give birth to a child that they are not prepared or able to care for, or to obtain an illegal, and often unsafe, abortion (Singh et al. 2006).…
