Field Study 5 Episode 2
My Reflection:
Is there such a thing as best assessment method or an assessment method that is appropriate for all types of learning? There is no assessment method that will suite for all kinds of learning because it depends and varies on the different factors such as: needs of the learners, the learning outcomes that should be assessed, individual differences and multiple intelligences of the learners, facilities and materials to be used , the purpose of assessment and others. Learners are the main factor to be considered in choosing the best assessment method to be used. In assessing learners should be the center of the assessment process because they are the ones to be assessed.

Assessment is a vital tool used by the teacher in determining if the lesson presented is well transferred to the learner. Assessment is very important thing to consider in education because through assessment you can measure the understanding of the learner based on the lesson presented.

As a teacher, you must be fair in assessing your students’ capability since every learner possesses a different intelligence and learning styles. Various methods should be implemented so that each of your learners expresses what is in their mind. Some students are good in written but then they cannot express their self orally vice versa. So as a teacher, you must consider the weakness and strengths of your learner so that everybody has the opportunity to reveal their potentials or express their thoughts. A teacher must use assessment methods that could cater the nature and needs of the learners. There are times that a assessment method is not applicable in your topic. All you need to do is to be a flexible teacher on which you will use

In order to prepare effective assessments we need to think about the key concepts and principles. It starts with validity. We need to make sure learners understand what we are actually assessing or measuring. For example are we assessing learners’ writing and reading skills when it is an assessment in Maths. Assessments are only valid if it evaluates what it is actually aimed to evaluate. Reliability is another concept that is related to validity but the importance is more on the accuracy and consistency of its purpose. Would we get the same outcome if we set the assessment up at a different time and different place with the same group of learners? Reliability is mostly based on all the assessors using the same standards and marking schemes.…

Assessment help to satisfy a number of different purposes in addition to learners learning, such as classifying achievement, quality assurance and supporting lifelong learning. As a teacher/ lecturer, I first organised initial assessment for my learners to test their knowledge of the course and level of literacy and numeracy due to the nature of the course. My class can be a mixture of different learners, some having done the course before and just need to repeat that level and others just starting completely. The information gathered from initially assessment of my learners will be taken into consideration seriously when designing my sessions because not all my learners will be in the same academy level and also how to meet their needs. I will ensure my session is designed in details, recommend necessary books to help and delivered on a timely manner in order for my learners to achieve their goal, to pass the external examination with excellent grade and make progress. In order for teaching to be very effective and also constantly monitoring my learner’s progress, I do organise tutorial for my learners which is mostly treating individual questions on pass topics and also opportunity work with them. They are put in a smaller group which will help them to participate more in class activities, learn from others and improve their confident on the course. The tutorial help me to constantly…

There are different assessment methods that are suitable for the needs of the students, the teacher’s curriculum, the learning and teaching strategies. Some of those methods include: examination, testing, essays writing, written assignments, oral assessments, visual assessments and other methods (discussions, simulations, peer assessments, self assessment, work based assessment, portfolio, etc.) All methods have advantages and disadvantages but there are essential for the learning process, as students need to know they are achieving the required standard and what their strengths and weaknesses are. At my work place we have several types of assessments that are standard and on which we put every new learner, regardless of their previous learning experiences and qualifications. Those types of assessments are: ·…

Taking the above there are for’s and against’s in all the above methods such as the exam environment can put dread into people whilst others revel in it. Many learners are more practical than exam orientated and as such would be better at doing an oral assessment or practical assessment. Some people are very good at remembering whilst others cant retain information over a long period but doesn’t mean they will be a bad learner. Finally the educator assessment which is vital to maintain standards can be a stress on the educator who is already under time and work pressures.…

According to Pellegrino, Chaudowsky, and Glasler (2001), “educational assessment seeks to determine how well students are learning” and it also “provides feedback to students” about the level of their understanding of learning. Various assessment methods- tests, observations, assignments, presentations – are implemented to measure the students’ educational outcome. Even though standardized assessment which is now mandated by the government is the most widely used type of assessment, comprehensive assessment such as observation, essays, interviews, performance tasks, exhibitions, demonstrations, portfolios, journals, teacher-created tests, rubrics, and self- and peer-evaluation, are more accurate indicators of student’s learning. (Edutopia, 2008). They provide more frequent and immediate feedback that is essential to increase student…
