Technology has paved the way to a new and exciting life. Since technology has become such a major part of our modern day lives, there is much speculation on how fast we are actually accruing new technologies. According to Moore 's Law, we double our technology every two years. This number has actually been updated to 18 months recently, and we can only expect that new to become smaller and smaller. (Greene, para. 1-6, 2011) In other words, we are learning more than ever! Out with the old, and in with the new. In many cases, technology moving forward makes for 'smaller ' phones and computers, features go up, and our technological tools in the world become more involved. This is especially true in the world of business. Technology helps businesses to better reach their customers, organize records, and to establish an online presence. (Swanson, para. 5-11, 2012)…

It is rather difficult to define a wicked problem perfectly than an ordinary problem (Camillus 2008). Therefore, it is almost impossible to state digital revolution properly because it is hard to say whether digital revolution has brought benefit or threat to consumers as well as business. For example, E-commerce has made it easier and faster for company advertising. However, it also brings problems concerning trust.…

Businesses today rely on technology to help perform necessary operations. As technology changes, what we consider advanced today, tomorrow will be considered outdated. Business ideas will also change in order to stay competitive with each other. New technology will always arise as old technologies are exploited to maintain a competitive market. With the aid of technology businesses can make more money in a more global market. Instead of selling products or offering services to local customer, they now can be sold to those who would typically be considered out of reach.…

Due to the Internet and wireless networks, the communication capabilities of computers are being extended and emphasized, often in these same products and services. For example, cars and elevators have computers that make them operate more efficiently. Now, due to the Internet and wireless networks, the communication capabilities of computers are being extended and emphasized, often in these same products and services. These additions are literally transforming these goods. In essence, we would characterize these additions as adding electronic tenders. A growing number of enterprises keep track of their customer interactions, culling them to understand clusters of customers and their buying patterns. Again, the options are endless. The goal is to get closer to the customer.…

Today, we seem to use the internet for almost everything we do like pay bills, shop, and even find love.…

In 1999, with the release of his book “Business at the Speed of Thought” Bill Gates attempted to enlighten the world to the fact that in order to succeed and become leaders in the future, businesses throughout the world would have to implement digital technology. The book itself is written entirely from Mr. Gates’ point of view. He wrote it in response to a number of requests from multi level business managers, organizational and corporate leaders, and IT professionals that wanted to know more about digital technology, and what he called a “digital nervous system”, which he claimed would help information flow.…

Opening of the internet to commercial activity, the creation of naming conventions for URLs and the development of a user friendly and free interface i.e. the browser were the three major developments that led to the advent of what is known as “e-business”. As the economy has moved from agrarian to industrial to information age, the focus of the businessmen or the wealthy and powerful has also shifted in terms of the ways of obtaining wealth or doing business. In the agrarian age there was shortage of land which made ownership of land as the determinant of value. Powerful land barons typically accumulated vast tracts of land and coerced people who were bound to the land and owned by the feudal lord into living on and working it. As economy moved from agrarian to industrial age, physical assets owned by a firm became the determinants of value and shortage of raw-materials led the powerful industrialists to conspire to control the supply of raw materials. In this age, the market could absorb as much product as the industrialists could produce. The current era in which we live has been defined as the information age wherein relationships and intellectual capital are more important than anything else. One is not worried about physical assets anymore. Companies don’t compete with each other over superior products as they are largely commoditized rather compete increasingly on the basis of value added customer services. The economic battles of today are fought over the mind-space of consumers. In the information age power-play customers are not passive participants, in the way that land and raw materials were in the agrarian and industrial ages. In fact, according to Zang Hailing, it is the customers' time that is in short supply, and therefore for any firm to succeed, emphasis needs to be given to the importance of reducing the customers' time to adopt a new product.…

I have to say, that Townsend’s book is a fascinating read on how societies are envisioned in the future. It is much like a dream, why not to call the fantasy world of Tomorrow land: It is like leaving the today world to enter the tomorrow world and its fantasy. We can say, that some societies are almost there, some already there, but most of them can only hope to be there. In our critique and analysis, we can appreciate, that the purpose of creating smart cities is not to build a technological utopia, but rather to build a better community, that has less carbon footprint and more efficiency in the delivery of services. A city that requires a comprehensive ICT (Information Communication Technology) master plan that must be or will focus on…

The internet, having its successful massive explosion in the mid 1990’s, is defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica (2011) as an infrastructure of systems that perpetually changed the communications and business industry by allowing indigenous networks around the world to communicate. An infrastructure whose complex design mimics the basic principles of human communication: System A uses a communication medium to sends a message to System B. System B acknowledges the message was received, process the message and responds to system A. Clark (2010) defines our communication process as a host sending a message to a receiver; while in transit, the message could be affected by barriers of communication; once it reaches the destination, the receiver process the message and responds.…
