In this structures all decisions are made from high management, this is ok sometimes. But in many instances it creates delays in the daily operation if a decisions needs to be made and the president can’t be contacted. That’s the problem when to mangers controls all decisions. Each part of the company is responsible for meeting the goals of the company and that’s servicing customers. At some point and time all companies will have this in place at some point and time.
Divisional Approach(Daft 2013)
When organizations group employees and department based on similar organizational outputs. Each division has a mix of functional skills and task (Daft 2013). This approach is good because not all decisions are made from top management, but from mid-level bosses. Bosses that have more hand on experience to completing the job and meeting customer’s needs. By coordinating all departments in completing their job will ensure the customer is satisfied with the service provided to them.
Matrix Approach (Daft 2013) Is a Structural approach that combines functional and divisional chains of commands simultaneously in the same part of the organization (Daft 2013). Many companies use this approach to help meet the needs of communication. As long as each part of the matrix is doing what they are supposed to do then the matrix will run fine. Like the CEO runs the whole company, then you have vice presidents that oversee certain sections within the company like the company I work for Norfolk Southern you have Mechanical, Track, Signal, and transportation. Then four departments have to work together to complete the task, then you have DMMO’S , foreman’s, and supervisors, each boss handles their own section of the matrix making sure the task meets the needs of the customers. As long as each department is working together and not creating rivalries the company will continue to be successful at solving problems quickly.
