Author Keith M. Parsons’s purpose was to briefly summarize the differences between high school and college to his future students. Parson begins his article by stating a few things that will guide you into becoming a successful student. He first wants to explain the difference between a teacher and a professor, “Teachers are evaluated on the basis of learning outcomes, generally as measure by standardized tests. If you don’t learn, then your teacher is blamed. However, things are very different for a university professor. It is no part of my job to make you learn. At university, learning is your job and yours alone. My job is to lead you to the fountain of knowledge. Whether you drink deeply or only gargle is entirely up to you”. (Parson, 1)…

The way Gallagher wrote his essay, it just shows he has a lot of confidence, he shows how he feels that he can do anything. Moocs will fit him because he will be in class with students that will grade his paper that will be people you don’t know, maybe people all the way across the globe. Gallagher demonstrates confidence in his essay on page #17 when he states, “Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single- handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants.”( Gallagher 17)He is saying this as if he can do it like nothing. Again, Moocs are right for him because needs to be confident about what he’s grading and the test he’s grading which are online. I know this because in The Year of the Mooc Pappano explains, “Coursera uses peer grading: submit an assignment and five people grade it: in turn, you grade it; in turn, you grade five assignments.”( Pappano 32)You need to have a lot of confidence to grade five papers at a time. Which Gallagher definitely…

For the past ten years, I have been involved in the development of Navarro College’s online program. When I arrived at Navarro College in the fall of 2000, we had approximately twelve online course sections, with just a little over 100 students. At the time, Navarro College had a total enrollment of approximately 3,800 students. Today, the online program alone has approximately 3,500 students during the fall and spring semesters out of a total college enrollment of just below 11,000. The growth has been phenomenal, and I am fortunate to have been…

Jenkins mentioned that online classes are a better choice, but not with all classes. Jenkins asks, "Can we agree that none of us would want to be operated on by surgeons who received all of their medical training online?” Online classes have their limits, but also have more conveniences. For example, Jenkins states that "For students who aren't able to attend college in the traditional way, "good enough", can be a godsend". They are less costly and the enrollment rate is higher than on-campus courses. Online courses seem to be the future according to Jenkins.…
