After Mulholland’s aqueduct operation was done, the World War I began. Since the United States was busy to settle down and controlled the urbanization, US should had been remained neutral. However, to be prepare the surprise attack, US wanted to be able to protect themselves. During the World War I, it was the best time for US to promote more trade and expanded their market toward the world. To do so, federal governments granted money for developing ports and facilities. According to Josef W. Konvitz, through the expansion of shipping, the great port cities acquired a significant manufacturing sector, including shipbuilding, and met the needs of their growing population for food and energy supplies (Konvitz 293). It was true that it was part…

If I would to be a Hollywood producer and if I remade this for a 21st century speaker, I would use a celebrity person named Miranda Crosgrow cast as a speaker, and I would set the scene in San Diego, California. The reason why I would put it in San Diego, California, is because it is very nice there and there is a lot of people to be found there that can be useful for a lot of things. There are Celebrities there as well. It is just a good city overall since it’s in California anyways, where there is good weather, a good scenery is always good. The “Seven Ages of Man,” by William Shakespeare’s play I think that Miranda Crosgrow would be good as the speaker and I could compare her to this act of William Shakespeare’s scene. Miranda Crowgrow played…
Donald L. Niewyk’s fifth and sixth chapters both deal more with outside perspectives and outside reactions than it does with those who were persecuted. The fifth chapter, “Bystander Reactions,” offers four different arguments as to why bystanders acted they way they did during the Holocaust. The sixth chapter, “Possibilities of Rescue,” discusses three different viewpoints on what foreign governments could have done to prevent the Holocaust. These two chapters conclude Niewyk’s book The Holocaust and wrap up the final sequence of events surrounding the Holocaust and the camps.…
The two pieces of writing from Sheingold and Polleta both analyze how law can play a role in advancing rights claims in public policy.…
Woody Holton uses several supporting arguments from this chapter to prove the main argument. How the Indians threatened to combine forces with all the Indians tribes to the west of the colonies to unify against the expansion of the Americans into the land they have controlled for many years before the first explorers. However, Holton points out one piece of land that ties specifically to the main topic of debate between the colonists and the Indians, which was an important piece of land for many Indian tribes. That land was where Kentucky lies presently, In the 1760’s Kentucky was the principal hunting ground both for the Cherokees (7,200 people) and for the Upper Ohio Valley nations: the Mingos (600), Shawnees (1,800), and Delawares (3,500)…
The technical aspects of losing weight such as regularly going to the gym and eating a strict diet is a tedious process that may be a motivator to NOT lose weight. We’ve already established that many people struggling with their weight do not feel happy in their bodies, but the act of losing that weight may never even happen. According to Sabinsky’s study on men, he discovered men “perceive too many barriers towards weight reduction” (Sabinsky). Sabinsky identifies that participants’ perceptions of necessary dietary change implied a potential loss of masculinity (Sabinsky). The sense of masculinity trumps the need to enhance their bodies and men would risk body weight and appearance for their dignity. This can explain why it’s noticable that…
In recent discussions of Susan Bordos reading about women’s pressures in society, one controversial issue discusses how women have expectations in society that they think they have to follow. These expectations consist of being able to cook and work in the kitchen, look beautiful, and dress certain ways to gain attention. In contrast, other arguments are; men do not have to worry about their weight, they should be strong and maintain a fit body, and not needed to cook or help out in the kitchen. Proponents of this position, emphasize that women in this world have to follow what society portrays of them, otherwise by not doing it, they will not receive the same attention as they would if they listened to society. Overall, the issue presented…
Forgetting history makes you believe anything that is what Howard Zinn proposes in his War and Terrorism. Applying this to the principle saying that emancipating the slaves is the product of the human moral code, and that it intends to give natural rights to them as humans and American citizens, proved it to be invalid. Once more history proves the invalidity of the claimed intentions of abolishing slavery. During the period of Reconstructions, though it is true that all the proposed regulations urge abolishing slavery as a must to live safe and sound within the borders of the U.S.A, the very true end of them did not represent the fulfilment of the intended aims of the war to emancipate the…
James Bain and Jonathan Barr were convicted for crime they have never committed. Like many others, false allegations cause innocent individuals to be arrested for crimes they have not committed. Results from DNA testing have been used as great evidence to help people reach their freedom from being behind bars. To prevent the conviction of innocent individuals, DNA tests should be mandatory to take when proving one’s evidence.…
To begin with, Grendel’s last words are “ Poor Grendel’s had an accident,” I whisper. “So may you all” (Gardner 174). Grendel is cursing the animals around him. For instance, when Grendel illustrates that he doesn’t like animals. This is when he has several incidences with the animals. Likewise, Grendel yelled “I smile, threatened by an animal already dead, still climbing” (Gardner 140). Grendel felt threatened by the animal, therefore he had to kill the goat. The goat trespassed on Grendel’s rock, making Grendel dislike the goat because the goat wouldn’t leave his rock. Also, Grendel implies “Why can’t these creatures discover a little dignity”(Gardner 6). The animals bother Grendel a lot of times. Grendel is just trying to be alone. He doesn’t…
William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury tells of a crumbling southern family, the Compsons, through the inner thoughts of three brothers and a third person narrator. Each of the three sections gives a different perspective on their sister, Caddy, who is the main cause of the turmoil in the family. The brother’s, Benjy, Quentin, and Jason, each interpret Caddy differently based on each of their interior conflicts. Benjy’s section gives the reader the perspective of the Caddy from a simple minded perspective, and describes Caddy as such. Quentin, being highly educated, gives a deeper look into Caddy and how she leads the family, and Quentin, to their end. Jason views Caddy as a disappointment and a curse upon the family. In Jason’s interpretation…
Arguing that our responsibilities are changed because of geographical distance or an empathy for a certain group has value as a clarification of how we are likely to act in real-world conditions, however Singer's argument target what the affluent are morally obliged to do without sacrificing anything of comparable moral significance. The nature of providing support to organisations in forms of small proportion of income, as Singer suggested, is the necessary amount and method. This means that it is challenging to raise even any intuitive protestations to it. To do so would be to be one of those petty people who protest about a 1% tax hike, despite the improvements to their children's schools and local roads, for example.…
Bede’s account of the conversion of the Northumbrians implies that the conversion to Christianity was a huge success and was accepted by everyone immediately as a better religion. Bede’s audience, Bede’s views and how the content relates to modern views and debates shows that the account is just a simplified version of what really happened. But it does show us how the Catholic Church wanted the conversion to be viewed.…
