The definition of nursing for me is an individual providing competent care both medical and emotional. Nursing is a form of care one provides to an individual who is suffering from an illness whether it may be physical or mental. The provider is establishing a therapeutic relationship so a platform wellness and recovery can be successfully achieved. Nursing is a process. It is a series of steps that the provider follows to formulate and diagnosis a plan of care can be develop so that all disciplines involve can participate in achieving the client’s overall all goals for a safe discharge. Nursing is both art and science. Nursing requires basic medical knowledge which leads to the science aspect and applying those concepts to practice taking care of patients. It is nursing goal to prevent illness and treat those who medically comprised, and it is with comprehension of science that nursing builds one of many aspects of care. Nursing can also be view as an art. Nursing is unique because it is professional which requires individuals to learn a specific skill set and apply to that specialty in nursing. For example, a psychiatric nurse specific skill set that he or she may acquire from experience is therapeutic communication. Therapeutic communications is form nursing art because it requires special ability to understand therapeutic and non therapeutic forms of communication. In mental health, this is main form of treatment because nursing is the primary listener for these particular clients, and therapeutic communication is the mode where psychiatric patients can express their feelings to decrease symptoms to maintain stabilization.
Ethics has important role in nursing because without it our profession would have no boundaries to protect our decision making towards providing quality care. Nurses are face with ethical decision on a daily basis, but as a nurse you are patient’s advocate for what is in the best
