Gattaca Compare And Contrast
The movie Gattaca is about a family that has one boy to start off their family. His name is Vincent and he is supposed to die around the age of 30. He has many things going wrong within his body and is really sick. During the next 5 years, the parents give birth to another baby, but the difference between these two boys is that the new baby named Anton is specially programed to be the best of the two parents. These two boys are always competitive with one another and its just a matter of events to see who is the best out of the two of them. This movie shows a mix of different emotions. It shows some characters being happy, sad, frustrated, mad, etc.. In the film, Gattaca it is about being perfect. Nothing else really matters. Vincent wants
to go up into space. But he is considered an “in-valid” person. That means he isnt a perfect person. And his brother Anton is considered a “valid” person, which is considered to be the best type of people around. In this society, being “perfect” is better than being happy. You can be so happy and yet you wont be perfect because you dont have the genes to be considered perfect. Jerome, a born a perfect baby, was programmed to be the best of the best. Until one championship he took place in ruined him. He got second place and didn’t want to be alive because he wasnt programed to be second. He ended up jumping in front of a fast coming car and even then he failed and became crippled for life. He was never happy after that. Jerome wasn’t able to be happy after that. Even if he were to become happy, he wouldn’t be perfect anymore. But despite that, the only person that was able to be happy and partially perfect was Vincent. He turned out to be happy because his dream of going up to space came true. But he wasn’t perfect. He was using the blood, urine, and other DNA samples of Jerome. During the moment of going up to space, Vincent was happy. He didnt have to go through the struggle of trying to be perfect anymore. I believe the only way to achieve both of these is to be perfect and be successful at your dreams.
