Gay Rights
In our country this year there is many movements for the gay community coming together. The gay community has significantly stood up for there rights over the last few years and we should expect a lot more. The gay community has recently gained many large voices to their movement, from congressmen and celebrities to even former President Bill Clinton (Wong Huffington Post). I believe 2013 is going to be a big year for not only the gay community but the transgender and bisexual communities as well. Each and every person apart of this movement is very passionate about what they want and believe in that they will stop at nothing to have equality. The gay community that has joined together has become nation wide, any parent with gay children, any friend to a gay person, and any one else that believes in equality has joined this movement for change. One movement that I noticed recently was in the social world of face book, for me I didn’t really educate myself on what was going on in the community much less cared for what was going on until I saw this movement as small as people changing their profile picture. The face book movement started with the gay activism group and the Human Rights Campaign to open peoples eyes to what was happening in the gay community with such a simple task(Fetters, The Atlantic). What they were doing was replacing their face book photo with different colors. The Human Rights Campaigns normal profile picture as a navy blue background with a yellow equals sign in the center to a pink equals symbol in the center with a red background(Fetters, The Atlantic). This started for California’s proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage act which began on tuesday.(Fetters, The Atlantic) From what I saw personally on face book this small movement spread across a lot of the face book community, as you scrolled down the “timeline” there were hundreds of people that had the pink and red logo as
