Racism Definition Essay
Racism can mean so many different things to different people depending on where they stand on the situation. Anyone can look up the definition of racism, but may not view it as what it is meant to be as and have a completely different idea as to what it is. For some it may be as simple as just not liking another race while others may feel racism is being targeted and being hurt by an entire society. Many people are even racists because they give a race a stereotype leading to them always being discriminated against or wrongly accused. Incidentally, racism may be another word in the dictionary or people who are targeted and hurt, but it can also be just a stereotype that people aren’t willing to look around. With all of the stereotypes and discriminating just against the African Americans, we have now put so many of them into our prison system that we are almost running out of places to put them. Sometimes they may even be put in prison just because someone didn’t feel comfortable in their presence and had created a problem in which they were then sent to prison even though they may have just been doing their normal everyday routine. Cory Booker states, “Right now, we have more African -Americans under criminal supervision than all the slaves back in the 1850’s.” Booker’s point is that we have made ourselves, the whites, such a superior race that we are still being racists to the other races around us and have found ourselves a way to still treat them with disrespect but in a different way than we had when we were allowed to have slaves. We have even gotten it so we can get free labor out of them and treat them like slaves, but since they are in the situation they are in, we have come to the conclusion that it’s okay to basically make them slaves while in
