Gcse Music Performance
1. In the piece we listened to for this assignment, there are multiple instruments making the sound. Each of them is making a different sound and then when the all come together we get an even better and enjoyable sound. There is the Piano, Violin, cello, flute, and Tuba in this piece of music from what I could see. The mood for this piece to me was calming and peaceful, at certain parts it became more uplifting but for the majority it was slow and calm. This performance was great to listen to while I studied because of its calming nature.

2. The melody in this performance is also in the title which is C major. We can also tell that this is major because of the tempo and feel of the music which is happy and a higher beet. The performance

Throughout the piece I would say that the rhythm was pretty regular. Even though the tempo or rhythm would sometimes dip down, it would only be for a second and then become the more up beet rhythm like the rest of the song. Songs that are more regular in rhythm are catchy and more peaceful in a way. I guess the best way to describe it would be that it flows very nicely together and seems balances.

4. Like I described in the paragraph before, the harmony is smooth. The notes just melt together so well to create a peaceful harmony that is so sweet to the ears. I would say that this piece is Consonant because of the way it flows together so well, there was not a part that I thought would need to be changed to flow together better. Since this piece was in a competition I was expecting it to flow and be consonant, and it did not disappoint.

5. Texture and music are not two things I would normally put together. But after learning about the different textures in music, I would say this piece would fall into the Polyphonic category. This is because there are many different instruments and cords all being played at the same time. There are some moments that I think we could say are Homophonic, but that would only be when the young women is playing the piano

There is a soothing beautiful simple flow to the piece, flowing evenly and rhythmically. As a lyrical chant, the flow of the piece would allow for instruments to replace voices if desired. This would be an aesthetic strength giving the piece versatility.…

I also noticed a little bit of polyphony in there when the chorus started to sing lower and then start to get higher around “He shall reign for ever and ever”. I believe where I detected it, along with the dynamics taking an effect. Then the around the ending the homorhythmic melody came back because of the settings from the trumpets and the timpani setting the mood to complete the performance. I also found out that this would be a SATB chorus, which is a 4-part chorus and…

Once the violin enters the music feels so heavy, as if all of us in the audience almost have to hold our breaths from the sadness and tragedy that is being displayed. As the movement goes on the notes get higher, but are not relieved from any seriousness. This is an amazing example of how music can display tone without a single word or explanation. Grace Mei-En Ho, “an active soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Asia”, executes excellent technique during the extremely low parts of this movement. This movement was my favorite because it invoked an intense feeling that I could easily see wasn’t only felt by…

The same tune would get caught in your ear, then it was moving you faster or slower; as well as that tune getting louder or softer at appropriate intervals coinciding with the dramas taking place. I also noticed a few woodwind and harp solos during the brighter, happier moments of the performance. The use of castanets and tambourines also caught my eyes and ears. Of course, there was tremendous use of varying the pitch and tempo as well as how loud or soft the music was. Again this is all to enhance how the emotion was conveyed to the audience. Additionally, a piece that stuck out in my head as I left (mainly because I’ve never really noticed or caught on to it until after learning this in one of our class sections) was toward the end when a solo played for a period of time and then that instrument was joined by all the other instruments—playing the same thing—in consistent pleasing…

On Monday, 18 November 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in Evergreen Presbyterian Church the Rhodes College Orchestra and Wind Ensemble performed the Baroque-N Christmas. The event was open to the public, to share their joy for the upcoming holiday. The program included the Palladio, the Suite for Strings, the Chasing Sheep is Best Left for Shepherds, the Alleluia, the Variants on a Mediaeval Tune, and the Concerto Grosso in G Minor, Op.6, No.8. I was very eager to attend the concert because the Baroque-N Christmas included works from the Baroque Era, which is my favorite period of artistic style. Leah McGray was the conductor and Jennifer Rote was the flute soloist for the Rhodes College Wind Ensemble; I don’t remember their being a concert master, which I thought was odd.…

I would describe the texture of this piece to be homophonic because the rhythm flows with the melody. I love the story part of the concert, it gives the audience a reason to listen even more carefully to the instruments being used. For example, when there is a calm lento feeling with the string instruments, a person would get a welcoming feeling. However, when you hear the drums or French horns being played, a person gets an uneasy feeling. This diverse use of instruments is what makes the concert that much more enjoyable to listen to. Sergei almost intentionally plays low pianissimo sounds for the audience for a small amount of time, then the musicians play mezzo beats. He intentionally does this to keep the audience involved in the concert and to keep them focused on the music. I loved how the different instruments can all play by themselves and make a beautiful sound. However, the true beauty comes when all the different instruments flow together to make a unified sound. The symphony orchestra that Sergei composed is a wonderful example of how to teach a younger generation about how a group of diverse instruments can make a variety of sounds and tempos. Even though the story/concert is considered for children, it is still a good base for people to learn about how instruments can tell a story. In conclusion, one could learn a vast majority of things…

The first piece I have picked out was “Oh, Had I Jubal’s Lyre” performed by Women’s Glee Club. I have heard a loud and sharp sounding piece. It started off with the soprano singing with a high pitch voice; then the alto with strong, gradually loud voice. The instruments were presented in this piece was piano and treble voices. The tempo throughout this piece are moderato and allegro. In other words, the tempo was repeating from moderate to fast. The song made me feels a little chilling, but also exciting because the dynamics were crescendo to forte, pianissimo combined with the fortepiano make it sound really sharp in an exciting way. I enjoyed this piece because it makes me feel happy as I listened along.…

On Sunday April 7 , 2013 I attended the Junior Recital for Michelle Ellison (soprano) and Rachel Stanton (piano) at Oberlin College & Conservatory. Coming to my second show at Oberlin College I really didn’t know what to expect this time around. On this nice day at Oberlin College I observed many students outside playing their instruments and various groups outside singing in circles enjoying the weather. I could tell that these students were very passionate about music. Inside of the conservatory building the recital was held inside of the Kulas Recital Hall. This was my first time entering a room that was made specifically for musical recitals. The hall wasn’t too big but it was large enough to fit a nice sized crowd in a narrow room.…

The third work was mostly a dance, with the piano playing. The piece had crescendo in the beginning, a harsh sound, and an unmetered rhythm. The harmony was polyphonic. The piano player and trumpet player begin playing at the end. The fourth work was called "Three More Foxes". This piece was highly syncopated, with a fast tempo and very easy to hear. The harmony was polyphonic, and it had accents at different levels. The piece is not an easy tune to hum to, it will suddenly get louder.…

A Romantic orchestra is being played that guides a tenor voice singer and a chorus of female voices. I love how each of the instruments makes a very gentle sound that the voices of the singers flow together. The dynamics are very gentle until the very end of the song where the sound of the tenor voice and the instruments get very loud to close the song.…
