Gender equality in workplace has been promoted over the past few years throughout the world; Britain is not an exception too. One of the causes of absent on gender equality is gender discrimination. Although gender discrimination have improved over the years, this factor still exist, which cause the unfair treatment to the female employees. In Britain, women still have a lower income, lower employment range and smaller occupation range. Majority of women’s effort in work have always been invisible, unpaid, underpaid and limited to low-skill, dead-end job, which in the end. In the retailing industry, women employees are only limited to the front line operatives or clerical position. The managerial and administrative level also lack of representative of the females. Job that required manual dexterity would usually goes to the male employees. Therefore, this causes the imbalance between male and female employees for a position which required performing a certain duty which traditionally meant for men. The number of female and male employees is also imbalance. Forms of discrimination come in many ways, such as hiring, firing, compensation, job assignment, promotion and fringe benefits. It may happen during the hiring process, men may get hired instead of women with equal abilities and experiences, or in term of employee benefits, such as the amount of training or vacation a male or female employee received.
