Sexism is a major issue across the United States, Women are the main victim for the stereotyping by gender. There are many different situations in which sexism can be an issue. A commonly known one is the gender discrimination in hollywood.
Jennifer Lawrence is the world's highest paid actress she gets paid about $52 million a year which seems like a lot but compared to the highest paid actor Robert Downey jr. at $80 million is quite a small number. Could it be because of gender?

Equal wages isn't the only problem in hollywood, in films women are barely represented. Reese Witherspoon brought this up at the American Cinematheque Awards she says “Women make up 50% of the population, and we should be playing 50% of the roles on the screen.”
That is something that will be hard to achieve though. According to a report at USC’s Media, Diversity & Social Change Initiative only 28.1% of characters in 2014’s top 100 films were women and only 21 of them had a lead or co-lead
Behind the camera it's even worse women make up only 1.9% of directors, 11.2% of writers and 18.9% of producers. In productions where women had key positions off-screen the films had more women more often, and in less sexualized roles.
