Sometimes, when we here gender identification and gender roles, we may think that they are the same thing. Yes, they may seem to be similar in some ways, but they are definitely different. Gender identity is how you feel about your gender and how you express it towards others. Gender roles are how people act in order to express whatever gender they may be. Gender identification and gender roles are very important because it allows you to know who you really are and what you are actually capable of. Believe it or not, there are many people that really do not know a lot about themselves and some of them may not even …show more content…
know what gender that may be. I know that might seem quite funny or odd to some people, but there are reasons why others might not know their identity of their gender or even the role they are supposed to be playing as the gender they are considered to be. The only way for some people to really know is for other people to actually tell them like parents and doctors. Knowing about yourself and also your gender tells a lot about yourself. Your gender is how people recognize who are and it is also how you may recognize yourself.
Everyone is not the same and everyone looks different, except if you are a twin maybe.
Even twins have their own way of doing things and thinking differently from the other. Now, your gender is basically society’s way of putting things. Your gender is whether or not you are a boy or a girl, male or female, man or woman. Whichever one you may be, that is considered to be your gender. You gender identity is how we feel about ourselves and our gender. It is also about how we express our gender and our gender roles. Ways that we can express our gender identity is by our clothing, personal appearance, and also by the way that we behave ourselves. Others factors that can determine gender identity are biological factors like having a penis or a vagina. Social and environmental factors can also determine gender identity because if you are taught about your gender by your parents or even teachers like the traits a girl or a boy should have, then they will grow up to know their gender. Also, if you hang around people that is the same gender as you, they may help as …show more content…
well.
Being masculine and being feminine really does not mean anything at all.
Yes, it is true that there are people are more masculine or more feminine than others, but we should not have to label them that way. Just because a man may wash dishes or even mop their homes that does not make them less than a man. A woman who may drive trucks or work for some kind of Oil Company that does not mean that she is less than a woman either. People do think about masculine and feminine being the opposite of one’s continuum, but like I mentioned before doing something that would be out of the ordinary for a man or a woman to do, does not make that person any less that what he or she is. There are even people who look masculine and they are women and vice versa. Some women might have men traits and some men might have women traits. The way they are put on the continuum, it goes by what a person believes they are and what they should
be.
Believe it or not, there are actually many factors that have helped me to determine my gender identity. Three factors that I consider to be most important are biological factors, social factors, and environmental factors. The biological factors are like having a penis or a vagina. As I came to that certain age or stage in life, I realized that I was a female simply because I had a vagina and I also developed breast. Social and environmental factors can kind of be a mix up because I met friends and had a good bit of friends in school. I had friends that were females and also males. I conversed with both, but I still knew that I was a female. At the end of the day, I realized I like boys and wanted to date them instead of girls. There is no such thing as being too masculine or being too feminine, even though some people seem to go just a little overboard, but that is quite alright. There are many traits that I possess because it is definitely the way I see myself. I am sensitive, quiet at times, emotional sometimes, innocent, and sometimes accepting. These are traits that society labels as being feminine. Some masculine traits or at least what society says that I do have are aggressive, active, self-confident, competitive, and tough.
