A growing issue in Sporting history and an issue that is still around today is about the gender inequality between the competitors and judges/referees. To this day there is a growing gap in the amount that a Male Athlete is paid to what a Female Athlete is paid. An example of this is, the top paid male athlete is Cristiano Ronaldo and he is paid $93million per year and this is compared to Serena Williams, who is the top paid female athlete in the world and only earns $27million per year. Yes they both play different sports but the top paid male tennis player is Roger Federer and he is paid $64million per year. This is a $37million pay gap.
Another example of gender inequality is the major gap in funding
for both female and male sports. In the Rio 2016 Olympics female sports were given 75% of the funding that the male sports got. This meant that male sports were more publicized on the television and more events were held for them. Another example of this major gap in funding is the Womens world cup for sports. The Womans Rugby World Cup was given a lot less funding than the regular (male) world cup. So that meant that it was never on television and it wasn't advertised, but when it comes to the regular (male) world cups it is advertised everywhere.
Another example of gender inequality in sporting is the smaller scholarship numbers for girls. A male athlete is 36% times more likely to get a scholarship for sports than a female athlete. Also male sports educators earn more money than female sports educators.
I believe that gender inequality in sport is caused by people seeing athletes/other sporting staff by their gender and not their experience/talent. The effects of gender inequality is that females will be discouraged from doing sports because they feel that they will never be up to the standards that males are. It will also make the division between genders even bigger, Males seen as sporty people and Females seen as weak people.
The solution to fixing gender inequality in sports is to notice what we are doing. We need to see that what we are doing isn't ok. It isn't ok that two athletes get paid more or less because of their gender. The governments/sporting organizations should be putting equal funding into male and female sporting events and colleges and should advertise both of them equally.
