The category I chose was Gender in sciences. My results were a slight automatic association for males in the sciences and women in liberal arts. I was shocked with my results because I associate more with female doctors than male doctors. I personally have a female doctor and I also associate with a lot of female nurses. The amount of time I took on each question was the final result. In the process of being tested I had a hard time going at a fast pace, and I immediately felt pressure to go fast but instead I would only go slower. Another great example of gender socialization in the media is holiday advertisement. A recent holiday that just passed was Halloween. In my opinion, Halloween is an extremely sexist holiday. Halloween interprets costumes as if they were gender roles. For example, for the guys all the costumes that they will wear are superheroes, kings, or villains. Male costumes portray the idea that men are the ones that save the world or save the maiden in distress. On the other hand, for women, they portray them as sluts and very sexual. Before WWII women weren't allowed to have a career or jobs. A current event example is in Japan where dads are trying to be a super dads. Tetsuya Ando is the founder of a Japanese non profit group that is organized by numerical classes. Japanese men are showing an interest in becoming ikumen(child-rearing). Japanese men usually work more that 48 hours a day or a week, so they don't have enough time to bond with their children. This is a great opportunity for all fathers.
