I like how you used the example of gender roles within the Mexican culture. In my own culture, there were things that women or men should do and not do. I also grew up being told that I should always look presentable and dress in nice clothing. I also did not play with the boys because they were just too rough besides my younger cousin. I believe I use to be very girly and fit in what our society thinks a girl should be. I have also heard that men should not cry, crying for men was basically never okay. Now as I grew older and I have more of a gender fluid approach. I believe I am still girly, but I do not care as much about if I fit the perfect gender role. I believe it is okay to be this way, but my family is still fixed on specific roles that they see fit in any given situation. I also recognize that there are gender roles and people expect certain things out of other people. I do not hold these standards to others. I believe everyone should be able to be what and how they want to be overall. I also believe that women can do anything that men can do, and men can do anything that women can do. I am happy that today we are a little more flexible as a society then we were before. Roles such as, cooking, cleaning, being the nurturer, dressing nice, etc. can be for men or women. I think taking turns to do things in a marriage or partnership is also a good idea. I agree that not every women or men has to fall into proscribed gender roles. Lastly, I agree it is important to me that people realize that gender roles exist and that it is okay to go against
