Jonas was skipped on purpose because he was selected for a very special role, Receiver of Memory. It had been ten years since the last time they selected anyone for this role. The Receiver of Memory is the most honored job. The following day Jonas met The Giver to start training. The Giver explained that his job was to transfer all the memories of the world and generations before them to Jonas, the Receiver of Memory. Jonas laid down on the bed and The Giver put his hands on Jonas’ back and transmitted a memory to Jonas. The first memory was of snow and riding downhill on a sled. Jonas loved it he felt happiness.
