Introduction

A group is a well structured organization with different individuals that has different characteristics and diversity these groups can be formal or informal. In my research I have found that retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Kmart has organizational structure. Group task satisfaction describes the group-level counterpart to individual job satisfaction and represents the group’s shared attitude toward its task and work environment. Places such as Wal-Mart demonstrate these skills to make their organization. The prevalence of groups and teams in the workplace (Beyerlein, Johnson, & Beyerlein, 1995; Devine, Clayton, Philips, Dunford, & Melner, 1999) makes it important to understand their effects on group members. In this paper I will identify an industry and organization type, explain four problems that could impact groups productivity, develop and describes logical and appropriate recommendations for each of the four problems provided and its recommendation, wide training, and the conclusion.

Organizational structure may be defined as the system of relations that subsist among a variety of positions and position holders. Formal structure is a blueprint of relations that has been knowingly deliberated and put into action by the organization. It includes a formal chain of command of power as well as policies and procedures and other premeditated attempts to control conduct. Wal-Mart organizational structure consists of a divisional structure. A divisional structure has three different categories in which are product structure, market structure, and geographic structure. Wal-Mart falls under market structure. This is where groups function by types of customers so that each division contains the functions it needs to service a specific segment of the market. For example Wal-Mart offers vision, pharmacy, haircuts, grocery, crafts, clothes, electronics, house wares and etc... This means each department will conduct its own group within Wal-Mart this

    Jack Welch, the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Electric once said, “We know where most of the creativity, the innovation, the stuff that drives productivity lies - in the minds of those closest to the work” (Welch, J., 2012). In every work environment there seems to always be some detractors from reaching the end result or end product. In a working world of a hundreds of millions of different personalities, different motivations, and different work environments, not one will ever be the same, with billions upon billions of variables to affect the environment. Work is what makes the world grow, and ultimately makes the world function. The dynamics that are presented in the work environment we come into, as well as the dynamics that we create and become a part of, set the stage for the workplace health and well-being both now and in the future. This assessment will look at the production work setting, and identify role conflicts within groups, communication problems among group members, lack of cohesiveness in groups with diverse members, and excessive intergroup conflict. This assessment will further evaluate how each problem could impact a group’s productivity, and will make recommendations to resolve each of the problems, and how it applies to the situation. The work environment is a complex environment to begin with especially in production. The dynamics between the individuals can further provide a challenge for the employees, managers, and leaders alike, but if that challenge is met head on and ascertained promptly, it can be a happy, healthy, productive workplace for many to enjoy.     For week three topics of discussion we decided to discuss the five stages of development a group priority. After reading and reviewing the information provided there are many things that were very important. When it comes to the five stages of development they include forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. Each of these stages placed in important role in development. However, what defines a group groups are two or more individuals that come together for the same reasons. They can be formal or informal. Groups are formed for social identity and the development of emotional reaction exists when a group fails or succeed. This helps members identify who they are and where they fit in. As the stages of development the first stage show management that the forming stage you can expect employees to start to see themselves as a group. Next the storming stage is when members begin to disagree about who will be in charge. When in the norming dates is a step the members behavior consists of cooperation and working towards a common goal. The performing stage is when members begin to work successfully with great energy. And in the adjourning stage, which is the final stage, shows what happens to the members at the end of the group and they resume their normal responsibility as these stages show what to expect when groups are formulated. As many react differently these stages are for people with a strong sense of purpose. As we take a look at group properties we have roles, standards that are acceptable behavior. Status is a social rank given to each member who exhibit different roles, bright, and ritual to differentiate themselves. The size of a group does matter it shows the overall behavior of the group. Smaller groups tend to be faster, while larger groups are better problem solver. Cohesiveness shows that members tend to get along and are motivated to stay in the group.
