George And Lennie

Essay Sometimes friends are liars and sometimes they are great friends, but they use you to their advantage. I remember one time I made a friend that only hung out with me because I always had money and it wasn’t long till I figured out she was using me, but I didn’t have many friends so I continued to hang out with her. One day her father died and before he died, I visited him at the hospital. He made me promise to take care of her and I still do to this day. He was an honest man who always spoke with candor and this story is very similar to a novel called Of Mice and Men. The main character George uses the second main character Lennie to his advantage and keeps hanging out with him because he is lonely. George also made a promise to Lennie’s grandmother to take care of him. Therefore, money, loneliness, and a promise are the reasons why George is still with Lennie even though he is mentally retarded. George has a dream to own his own ranch and he uses Lennie to reach that dream. George collects the money him and Lennie get and tries to save up for the ranch. If George worked alone, he would buck barley for only $50 (Steinbeck 39) but with Lennie around, he gets $100 (60).
