As we started our interview session in class and having introduced each other, I asked him to name one thing he was proud of, he suddenly paused. He then answered that he was proud of being a student and had been given the opportunity to better himself through attending college, something that his parents didn’t have available to at the time they were his age.…
George Wildly was born on October 11, 1930, in the state of New Jersey. He had a family of four meaning it was just him, his older sister, and his two parents. He has never been hugged by his non-consoling family . George had nothing to do, so in 1948 he volunteered to enroll himself for war ,at the age of 18. He did not get the chance to select the branch he would have like to join. He was well suited for the Navy.…
Describe in detail endogenous pacemakers- suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in the hypothalamus, SCN obtains information about light from the eye via the optic nerve, happens even when eyes are shut, as light penetrates the eyelids. If endogenous clock is running slowly, morning light automatically shifts the clock ahead, making the rhythm correct with the world outside again. SCN- pair of structures- one in each hemisphere of the brain, and each of these is divided into a ventral and dorsal SCN. Albus found that the ventral SCN is relatively quickly reset by external cues, but the dorsal SCN is much less affected by light and more resistant to being reset. SCN sends signals to the pineal gland making it produce melatonin at night, melatonin creates sleep because it inhibits the brain mechanisms that promote wakefulness.…
Pride is an emotion that has two meanings. With a negative meaning, pride is an exaggerated sense of personal status or accomplishments. With a positive meaning, pride is a pleased sense of attachment toward one's own or another's choices and actions. Johnny Tremain is known to be an extremely prideful person. Johnny has both positive and negative prideful traits that affect him throughout his life. His pride played a large role in his accident, and benefited him and other people throughout the novel as well.…
Upon receiving my letter for invitation to apply for the National Junior Honor Society came feelings of hard work pays off, and a bit of pride. I have worked very hard to maintain an all A average at Friendswood Junior High while taking some PAP classes as well as challenging myself with Latin. Having been told in a conference with a 5th grade teacher that I was not going to be an A student and that my parents and I needed to get used to that fact, sent me on a mission to be the best student I knew that I was capable of being, regardless of what any teacher thought.…
Pride is a deep pleasure of satisfaction from one’s own achievement but is having too much pride a problem in today’s society? There are different kinds of ways to express one’s pride such as through an organization, sport, education or themselves. Imagine, a senior who recently been accepted to their dream college, University of Austin. That student will wear all the UT gear they can possibly find and represent their soon to be school. There are alumni’s who wear their college rings next to their wedding rings and even drivers who have the license plate of their graduating class and college. Even the people from Houston have pride to show off where they are from. Therefore, they throw up the “H-Town” sign up in the air or wear Houston gear of our sports or even skyline. Everybody has a bit…
Slaves in the Antebellum South had many restrictions placed on them, including on their marriage. According to Tera W. Hunter, New York Times author, “Back in 1860, marriage was a civil right and a legal contract, available only to free people. Male slaves had no paternal rights and female slaves were recognized as mothers only to the extent that their status doomed their children’s fate to servitude in perpetuity” (Hunter). Slaves were forced to live under the terms of their master that controlled their relationship. Despite this, many slave families held high family values and often worked hard as a result of their master allowing them to have a family.…
There is a quote by an unknown author that states, “Pride is a personal commitment. It is an attitude which separates excellence from mediocrity.” Now this may not apply to every example of a proud person; however, it directly applies to John Proctor. In the play “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, John Proctor, a well-respected farmer, is confronted with a difficult decision and because of his pride decides to keep his reputation while saving the innocent; unfortunately this is the ultimate cause of his demise.…
‘Flawed characters are always more memorable than any moral lessons that literature seeks to draw from them’…
Attending the Pride friday at IUPUC before the beginning of school has been one of the most helpful events. By going to this I met some friends and learned more about the school itself. Although I have made the choice not to stay at IUPUC all four years of my college career, being here my first semester has started me off great. During this event they spoke of how we start and end our four years in the same way. I am just glad I have been able to enjoy my first semester by making some new friends, learning new strategies to working and figuring my life out.…
But he choses to show pride in his grades rather than other more materialistic things like most people in…
A recent event in my life where I felt proud was getting enough money to help my parents pay for bills and succeed and pursue "the american dream". I started to work for HoneyBaked Ham part time since I was eligible to work. The paychecks felt great and giving them to my parents was felt better. As my sister and I get ready for college, the money got tight and I did gigs on the side. I did everything from landscaping to repairing phone screens. Felt stressful but, mind over matter right? Thats exactly what my parents thought when they moved overseas to the new world. I felt a huge sense of pleasure as I could see stress lift off their shoulders when I gave them the money This would help me in college because I know I can give myself the extra…
Ever since I was the Defensive Captain of the football team every little thing I did was noticed. With the coaches working in our school, we were constantly supervised and had certain privileges other students didn’t. Before every big game I wanted to relax and focus on the game ahead, but the entire school wanted to talk to you and ask questions about what you’re going to do. In a way I enjoyed this, the pressure to step up to the plate made me feel like I had a purpose for the school. I believed in myself and knew I was capable of meeting their expectations. Their satisfaction didn’t satisfy me in anyway but seeing my hard work and dedication pay off did. I cherished the moments when the announcer would scream my number on the field after a big play. These moments were immaculate in my eyes especially in front of the big crowds. One of the tragic incidents of my…
I think that I challenged myself to receive good grades, and that I have done so this semester. I am eager to find out new or different things that I have some knowledge about, but I was amazed at the things I thought were right with counseling issues that I was completely wrong about. I am sure that I still have a long way to go, and many new things to learn. I feel that I was entirely invested in this class and all the assignments that were given to me. I wasn’t late on any assignments and many times had the assignment finished before it was due. I read each chapter carefully and was interested in each new thing that I found. I always want to do my very best in each class that I take. I returned back to college when I was 40 years old. This was something that I had dreamed of for many years, but was afraid to try it. I thought that I wasn’t smart enough to go back to school. I am glad that I made this decision even if it was many years after I should have done it.…
Thank you for sharing your experiences with the class. It’s ODD, because generally I would say that, I enjoyed reading someone’s post or nice post, but these situations aren’t nice. Some of these are tragedies that are being expressed in writing, that rely on using strength and courage. Some of the actions that we take also rely on strength and courage or the actions we may want to take cannot be fulfilled without strength and courage.…
