Chapter 2: Is it everyone that is baptized that will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit?…
Spiritual Gifts are granted by the Holy Spirit as He wills. There are many gifts that are all granted by the same Spirit to benefit the body of Christ (1 Cor. 2:4, 7). However, when referring to either the Gifts or Fruits of the Spirit, consideration is needed to avoid confusing their meanings (Towns, p. 306). In addition, the gift of tongues and its relation to the baptism of the Spirit are highly debated upon. This essay will discuss biblical proofs and the questions surrounding these gifts, plus reveal the “perfect” reward in the end.…
I Corinthians 12:3-6 –The Holy spirit claims that Jesus is the Christ. Spiritual gifts are present among prophets and apostles. Also, miracles can happen in true church.…
For Christians and the church the Holy Spirit lives inside the Christian and guides the actions of those who desire His presence. The Spirit empowers the believer to step outside his comfort zone to do extraordinary acts of faith for God. Being filled with the Spirit involves transforming their minds to the mind of Christ as we engage in spiritual activities. Walking in the Spirit leads to a sense of peace and joy. Violating their conscience through acts of disobedience leads to a loss of filling by the Holy Spirit, which takes away their joy and peace. Although God will not take the Holy Spirit away from a disciple of Jesus Christ, the continual practice of sin and a lack of spiritual activities will lead to a life that is no different than the life of a…
(2) Tongues are a sign—often of judgment and not to build up—for unbelievers. Paul explains further that if an unbeliever were to witness the gift of tongues in action, s/he may think that Christians are insane and thus reject the…
There are actually three biblical lists of the “gifts of the Spirit,” also known as spiritual gifts. The three main passages describing the spiritual gifts are (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; and 1 Corinthians 12:28). The spiritual gifts identified in (Romans 12) are prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leadership, and mercy. The list in (1 Corinthians 12:4-11) includes the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues. The list in (1 Corinthians 12:28) includes healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.…
PART ONE: What are your top two spiritual gifts? Do you agree with the results? Why or why not?…
Walter C. Kaiser Jr. does an excellent job providing a Reformed Perspective on Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Through his work I was able to see the connection between the Holy Spirit’s work in the Old Testament and the fulfillment of the Holy Spirit’s empowerment of Jesus’ followers. However, the main topic of discussion by Kaiser is whether there is one event of salvation—including the infilling of the Holy Spirit; or are there two different events—one for salvation and the other baptism of the Holy Spirit. In light of this, what I find most interesting is Kaiser’s discussion on a didactic approach to Scripture—meaning all of Scripture is to instruct us. The other option is portions of the bible, such as the book of Acts is simply an historical account rather than theological account. To my shock, Kaiser quotes on of my favorite theologians Gordon Fee who says, “What is merely narrated or described can never function in a normative way” (Brand 25). How dare you Fee! I believe that all of scripture, whether historical, narrative or instructive is to form our theology and understanding of God.…
Christ has died and left the Holy Spirit to dwell among us as a paraclete (a comforter and helper). The Holy Spirit is what guides Christians to a better spiritual connection with Christ. In the past during the biblical time, the sacrifices of a lamb were in use. Christ came and became the lamb for all Christians. In doing that action of love, he left with us the Holy Spirit to help us in our daily lives. As an individual through this article, I have learned more about the Holy Spirit and the role that it played among us. As stated in the article pg. “ The paraclete teaches believers by informing and inspiring teachers in the Christian community.” In the article I have concluded about why the Holy Spirit came and what is the mission for being here with humanity. I have learned that the mission of the Holy Spirit is to…
The first Christian Pentecost occurred, according to Acts, when the disciplines were gathered for this feast after Jesus’ ascension, they were filled with the Holy Spirit. [Also] The early church saw the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles at PENTECOST as the outpouring of divine gifts of holiness, love, healing, and speaking in TONGUES….Speaking in tongues is a (glossolalia) is a Christian religious phenomenon in which the believer, in an ecstatic state, speak in a foreign language or utters unintelligible sounds that are taken to contain a divine message.24…
receiving the Holy Spirit is the way that those who already believe in Christ are empowered to serve Him. .... It's more important to focus on how one lives the Spirit-filled life than on a rigid formula for receiving it.... Receiving the Spirit in the Lucan sense is not a one-time event, but an ongoing way of life."…
It is in the book of Acts that we find details about how the gifts are bestowed to believers. Acts 2:38 says, “And Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” This couldn’t be any clearer. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to those who repent of their sins and are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. It is at that point that the Holy Spirit indwelt the believers at the time of the early church. Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses” This also makes it clear that the gifts are given through the Holy Spirit and not by any other means.…

The spiritual gifts test said that I am strong in discernment and leadership, which i believe are both true. I feel like I can lead very well and I also feel like I am a good talker and i relate to people even when i haven't gone through what they have been going through. And I feel like i am a straightforward down to earth guy which which can help me with my leadership if there is something that they are wondering they should do in a specific…
There seems to be a distinct difference between the manifestation gifts (1 Corinthians), the redemptive gifts (Romans 12- prophet, servant, teacher, exhorter, giver, ruler, & mercy), and the ministry gifts in which we walk out our other gifts (Ephesians 4).…
