I put a lot of effort into finding the right gift for someone. The first thing I do is look through my craft books and decide what I am going to make. Depending upon the holiday, I usually get ideas from that holiday and from the individual's personality. The next thing I do, when I am looking for gift ideas, is find out what they like. If they have something they really like, I will try to make a gift around that. For example, my mom loves the Buffalo Bills. Last Christmas, I made my mom a Buffalo Bills sign for her driveway.
My favorite holiday for giving gifts is Valentine's day. The reason this is my favorite holiday is because it gives me a chance to show my family what they mean to me. The hearts on Valentine's Day, symbolizes love. I give a lot of heart of chocolate out to my family and friends because I tell them "With this heart, I love you." I show them by giving them gifts on this holiday and telling them how much they mean to me. It is worth seeing the joy and appreciation that they feel for me because it is seldom that expression, in my family, is shown.
Receiving gifts are very uncomfortable for me because I am very shy. I especially feel shy when I do not think I deserve the gift. For example, my father gave me a brand new guitar for my birthday. My thoughts were grateful, hoever, I felt that it was too much for a gift. I felt awkward because he spent so much on me. I don't know if he realized, but I would have been happy with just new strings for my old guitar.
The reactions from my friends and family when they open their gifts are very rewarding. The reaction that my mother gave me whan I gave her a dozen red roses on Valentine's Day last year was worth doing it all over again. All she said was "Thanks," but the look on her face was a huge smile. My mom also shed a few tears. My mother was very appreciative and surprised too.
In conclusion, I think that making people happy with gifts is the greatest joy. I believe that giving gifts is the greatest joy because it lets my family and friends know that I think about them and that I love them very much. I would not think of anything more wonderful than to give them that joy.
