C IS FOR CALIFORNIA My mom grew up in California. Thats about all I know. She moved to Kansas after many other journeys around the world, and thats where she lives now. Some of my family still lives their, my three uncles, my grandparents, and other cousins. I don't see them very often, but when I do, I have a great time with them. Many of them are my age, some of them are older and some of them are younger. We don't visit often, because its a ways away, but when we do, we have a great time. The best trip I have had to California was last year. We drove out, taking so many gadgets and cloths that my feet couldn't touch the ground of the back seat in my mothers car. We drove several hours, not stopping often enough. I can't remember the last …show more content…

It has never been to big a holiday itself, but I enjoy it a lot. Early in the morning we get up and go to our grandparents house. When we get there, the easter baskets are sitting up along the window sill. My uncle Jesse, is normally here for his holiday, and he sleeps in my grandparents house, meaning he is already there when we arrive. We first eat breakfast, before digging into the baskets. Some people say, "Your birthday isn't a holiday." I am still to make up my mind. If it is, I really enjoy it. I normally have some friends over and we eat cup cakes during the hours of one, two and three. Then my grandparents come over and we eat the poppiseed cake my mom makes. Some years we watch a movie, other times we have other cousins over. My favorite holiday is Christmas. All of my family gets together at multiple places. We do presents and stalkings at my grandparents house and then we leave and play white elephant at my aunt and uncles place. These are my favorite holidays because I get to be with my family and have

Spending good quality time with family is really enjoyable. The quality of the time spent is irreplaceable. We love playing scrabble with each other after our feast. Laughing and joking with each other because someone decides to make new words while playing. Monopoly is always fun too. I enjoy catching up and talking with loved ones that I haven’t seen in a while. Just sitting around and watching a new movie with the family or even simply to relax. I am so blessed to have such a great family.…

It was the day I came into this world, even though I was pretty early, and one of the most special birthdays to my parents as well. It’s a day that is more likely than not all about me and I usually end up getting some gifts. Some people see birthdays as a sign of getting old, but I like seeing them as a milestone of another year of living and another chapter in my life and that is the way I would like to continue to see it in that way.…

Imagine being stripped away from everything you knew: your childhood friends; cousins you thought you'd always have with you, and places you called your second, third, or even fourth home. That is exactly what I went through when my family decided to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. What's different about my experience was that it wasn't necessarily the move that flipped my world upside down but everything that happened in between. I was an awkward, shy, midget-like twelve-year-old when my family and I lost our home during the California money crisis. From that point on it was like a tumbling circus act. My parents ended up losing their jobs until finally my dad moved to New Mexico; leaving me and my family for almost a year. The last thing…

Shortly after my father’s departure, I received a call from my Mother asking for money, I depleted what funds were saved, not having any to send her. Lashing out a serpent's tongue, cursing began and names she insulted me with are not surprising, as anticipated. Both my mother and sister returned to California. Pam left her two daughters in California, the girls were separated somehow. I truly don’t know how it came roughly to their living arrangements, although my elder sister, Cynthia had the newest child, she was possibly two at the time. The middle child disappeared, living with friends, a pre-adolescent. Discovering by accident the situation by visiting my sister, Cynthia. A few weeks later I ended up holding the newest child and locating…

I am sure it happened as easily as this: We were sitting around the garage shooting the bull during a cold winter snap. Thoughts turned to motorcycle rides and things spring and summer. For once, it wasn’t me. Mrs. K was the one to mention going to California. We hadn’t taken a trip the summer before, and she said, “We ought to ride to California and take the PCH along the coast.” Probably, no one jumped up and started packing, but several certainly starting thinking. One mention leads to another mention which leads to final plans. For me, it was a dream I have had since I watched Then Came Bronson and spent my time reading On the Road. For all of us, we researched the trip and found places and things…

Going to Southern California, no one would think of packing an umbrella. Why would they? California is in the middle of a drought. When someone thinks of California, they think of baby blue skies and palm trees along the streets. But, of course, the weekend my family decided to visit Disneyland, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld is the weekend Southern California experienced what the local news called a “tropical depression.”…

When I was ten years old, my parents told me we were moving the California. I was absolutely thrilled. California was purely an abstract and conceptual mirage-type of place, too far away to know where it was, and too far away to really understand. The magical land of celebrities, skyscrapers and colossal burgers. A place where everything was possible, where dreams could actually become true, and where you had the ability to do what you wanted and be happy. This naive and unrealistic vision of California has affected my childhood so much that it is, in many aspects, still is part of me today. I discover new things everyday about this place with the same childish enthusiasm that I did the first day I arrived. I still gasp everytime I see the Hollywood sign, enjoy going to…

I’ll never forget having to leave my friends and family behind and having to move across the country. It was the summer of 2008, and I was 10 years old at the time. The huge brown boxes, indicated the progressive yet subtle hints of our departure. I did not know why my father took the job in Washington D.C., but I did know that I resented him for it. However, it wasn’t long before I realized the move was for my own good. Back in California, my family lived in a tightly cramped two bedroom and one bathroom apartment. I soon realized moving to Virginia gave my family unspeakable opportunities, those that some take for granted, such as being able to live in a single family home. Coming to Virginia was similar to coming to a foreign country. The roads were different, the people were different, and the atmosphere was different; everything seemed foreign.…

People have many opinions and reasons about their favorite holidays, but out of all the holidays I would think that Christmas is the best above all. There are many reasons why I like Christmas, but only three matter the most to me. One of the reasons is because people get to exchange gifts with friends and family. The other reason is because of the foods, but the best part of Christmas is spending time with the family.…

My grandparent's home is where we all celebrated all the different events. We celebrated holidays, birthdays, and any time when the family would come down from out of town everybody would get together and make different types of foods. After the years went by I look back to the past and still remember that old little house that was my first home. My grandparents still live in the same town and they only live one street away from the old house. Everytime I go to visit my grandparents I pass by the old one and remember how it used to look when my grandparents lived there.…
