Meaningful Thanksgivings

I remember being a little girl, sitting at the kitchen counter, watching my mother. She would be making preparations to cook us our wonderful meal. Eager to learn, I would ask, “Mom, what can I help with?” Then I’d jump down, off my chair and listen to her instructions with excitement. She put forth a lot of hours preparing and finishing everything before family and friends arrived. The kitchen would be filled with joking, laughter and storytelling. We would listen and sing to music as we helped and waited for our Thanksgiving celebration to start.
Thanksgiving memories are so vivid and meaningful, reminding me why I am so grateful for my family and Thanksgiving tradition. Thinking of all the aromas from the dinner and desserts filling the air is irresistible and mouthwatering. My family is from New Orleans, so

Everywhere I looked everyone’s plate were stacked high with food. After stuffing ourselves, no one will be able to touch any food for hours. A nap is sure to follow, especially for me.
Spending good quality time with family is really enjoyable. The quality of the time spent is irreplaceable. We love playing scrabble with each other after our feast. Laughing and joking with each other because someone decides to make new words while playing. Monopoly is always fun too. I enjoy catching up and talking with loved ones that I haven’t seen in a while. Just sitting around and watching a new movie with the family or even simply to relax. I am so blessed to have such a great family.
The autumn weather in November feels great. All colors of leaves falling on the ground, the brightness and warmth of the sun. Yet, there is still a feeling coolness in the November air. I love all the different changes of the weather that come with Thanksgiving. It is great to still be able to enjoy the outdoors before it becomes too cold. Feeling this weather at any time takes me back to holiday

As an American citizen, I love Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is about friends and family coming together and eating. For hundreds of years, turkey has been the main dish for Thanksgiving. With the growing number of vegans and health fanatics, turkey has been debated for the main dish for Thanksgiving. In my opinion, the turkey should stay the main dish because it's American and historically correct, creates a vast number of jobs, and can also be healthy.…

Now don’t get me wrong I loved seeing my extended family but hey who doesn’t love food. We have a family tradition of visiting my aunt’s house in good ole’ Rainbow City, Alabama. Which for those of you who don’t know where Rainbow City is, it’s just outside of Gadsden, Alabama. Why I Love Thanksgiving

I always know when it is time to eat on Thanksgiving because when everything is ready and set in place on the dining table. Each dish takes up a good amount of time and steps before it is ready to be served. My favorite dish for thanksgiving is sweet potato pies because it can go with everything and it is not very time consuming compared to the other dishes. The first thing my mom does is to boil one pound of sweet potatoes for 40 to 50 minutes in a pot. Burble, burble, burble. Afterwards, she runs cold water over the sweet potato to cool it off. The pot makes a sssssssssssss sound because of the cold water. The sweet potato needs to cool off so she can peel the skin. Thereafter, my mom places the sweet potato on an enormous bowl to break apart. The last part is my favorite because I get to help place the butter and the spices that go in the sweet potato. Also, she lets me help holding the mixer to mix everything. In the end, my mom places the mixed sweet potato on a baking dish and she puts it inside the oven for 50 minutes until it is done.…

From the point of view of other countries, we Americans have certain holidays that define us as the type of people we are. A few of those holidays comprise of Independence Day, Columbus Day, and Thanksgiving. For me, when the word Thanksgiving comes to mind, all I envision is a glorious turkey dinner sprawled out on a dining table. The picture that is captured in my mind is a lot more wholesome and loving than say a can of Pringles or a Big Mac.…
