I remember being a little girl, sitting at the kitchen counter, watching my mother. She would be making preparations to cook us our wonderful meal. Eager to learn, I would ask, “Mom, what can I help with?” Then I’d jump down, off my chair and listen to her instructions with excitement. She put forth a lot of hours preparing and finishing everything before family and friends arrived. The kitchen would be filled with joking, laughter and storytelling. We would listen and sing to music as we helped and waited for our Thanksgiving celebration to start.
Thanksgiving memories are so vivid and meaningful, reminding me why I am so grateful for my family and Thanksgiving tradition. Thinking of all the aromas from the dinner and desserts filling the air is irresistible and mouthwatering. My family is from New Orleans, so …show more content…
besides all of the traditional Thanksgiving fixings we have Creole traditions; from turkey to gumbo, we have it all! It is definitely considered a Thanksgiving feast to my family. After the main feast, dessert would be next. My favorite is the coconut butter cream cake.
Thanksgiving dinner tasted simply delicious.
Everywhere I looked everyone’s plate were stacked high with food. After stuffing ourselves, no one will be able to touch any food for hours. A nap is sure to follow, especially for me.
Spending good quality time with family is really enjoyable. The quality of the time spent is irreplaceable. We love playing scrabble with each other after our feast. Laughing and joking with each other because someone decides to make new words while playing. Monopoly is always fun too. I enjoy catching up and talking with loved ones that I haven’t seen in a while. Just sitting around and watching a new movie with the family or even simply to relax. I am so blessed to have such a great family.
The autumn weather in November feels great. All colors of leaves falling on the ground, the brightness and warmth of the sun. Yet, there is still a feeling coolness in the November air. I love all the different changes of the weather that come with Thanksgiving. It is great to still be able to enjoy the outdoors before it becomes too cold. Feeling this weather at any time takes me back to holiday
memories. This year Thanksgiving will be different, I will be responsible for the memories and great food. I’m feeling anxious and nervous, in hopes that everything will turn out like when I was a little girl anticipating Thanksgiving. This year I will be in the kitchen for hours preparing food, and my little girl will be watching from the counter. I am so thankful for my wonderful family, they are truly a blessing.
It is going to be very exciting for me to create such happy memories with my children. I hope to instill in them the Thanksgiving tradition that is so meaningful. Teaching and showing them the true meaning of the holiday’s tradition, the importance of Thanksgiving. The tradition is meant to be passed from one generation to another. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because of its meaning; giving thanks, for all that the Lord has done. It is a time for families to spend time together and to reflect and be thankful for all we have. I hope to make this Thanksgiving just as special and memorable for my children, as my parents did for me; heartfelt, filled with love, joy and the value of family.
