Globalization: Good vs. Bad
Globalization. Is it good or bad?

Globalization is happening all around us everyday whether it is wanted or not. Some may believe that globalization is a bad thing and should be controlled to some degree. Others say that it is a great thing that is happening in the world and that it should be seen as a move in the positive direction.

What is globalization, What makes it so important, and why is it only recently being noticed? Globalization is a process of interaction and integration between governments, cultures, and companies. It is important because it has effects on the environment, on culture, on politics, and on economics to name a few. Currently speaking, globalization can be summed up as being a free-market, policy driven, open economy and reasonably open governments. People may think that globalization is new, but it is not. In fact globalization has been around for thousands of years, it just had not been noticed as easily as it is today. Technology. Technology is the main reason of why we are noticing globalization. Without technological developments in transportation and communication our world would be much more different. With the developments in transportation people can travel to places that people in the past have dreamt of. Since traveling had been made easier, faster, safer, and more efficient, trading with other countries became possible. The development of the means of communication linked one side of the planet to the other. With communication being a press of a button away news and information can be received within moments of an event happening. All of this is what made globalization more noticeable. Even with all the new communications opened and new opportunities available globalization still is a highly debated topic that seems to split into a pro and con argument.

You have the people that say that globalization will help the whole world to deal with crises like unemployment/poverty, it will help to raise the global economy,

Globalization is said to be the connectedness and spread of production, technologies and communication globally. It is also what trends are for. Globalization is what all of us here in this world share in common. Personally, I can say that I am quite globalized. Our generation is, so to speak. I use many things that are commonly known and also practiced worldwide. I use social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, which were created for us to communicate with everyone else around the world. Also, I patronize products such as Forever 21, Apple, Blackberry, to name a few, for my personal needs instead of buying what is locally available. In terms of food, I prefer restaurants and fast food chains which are internationally known. Instead of flying every three months to our relatives in other countries and regions, I talk to them via Skype, an international program which can make you see and talk to people around the world. I also watch shows like Gossip Girl and 90210 produced by the United States. Watching these shows influence me with the way I dress and with the way I choose things. Also, I tend to hear and use new (and improvised) words. Patronizing chick-flick movies with catchy soundtracks (also produced abroad) also interests me. Every time a video, may it be music or prank, goes viral, I tend to also watch it just to go with the “trend”. Our family also buys foreign-made cars since “they are stronger and faster”. I also watch more NBA games than our local basketball teams. These are some examples of the things I do and have which other people in all parts of the world also practice.…

Globalization has become a highly debated concept around the world. Globalization can be simply understood as “a process of global economical, political and cultural integration” (thefreedictionary.com). Today the world has become global and integral and all of its major parts are completely interconnected like in a tiny village. Globalization is an everyday process that brings a cultural unification and changes people’s psychology. Globalization is happening almost everywhere in the world and having various impacts on people. It is a process that is bringing the world smaller and smaller and also imposing a change on people’s cultural level. People’s identity is changing because of globalization. Globalization has made the world we are living today more complex and culturally pluralized. Many people migrate to new places and are forced to adopt a new culture. However, their traditions might not fade away because they will always be part of their identity.…

Globalization is a phenomenon in which corporate expansion around the world and economic growth comes together. This seems like a good thing. Globalization can be viewed as an improvement for society for many reasons driven by free-market capitalism. This super powered phenomenon can also be seen as a threat because it is an ideology or concept that is trying to advance the corporate agenda; in retrospect globalization is the contemporary form of capitalism. If globalization were to benefit or be advantageous to all people then it would be a great thing. It just needs to be geared in the right direction and there is no proof that it will or how long it will take.…

Globalization is a good thing. However, its implications on economies are not entirely rosy. There are people who have been negatively affected by globalization. Globalization has resulted to more jobs, and generated more wealth something that cannot be said of everyone. People in developed nations have been hurt by it. Americans are one such lot. Factories have closed and moved to locations such as China, Vietnam and Mexico. The factories that have remained have lowered their wages to remain competitive. Globalization has been underway since the dawn of history. “It is now characterized by shrinking space and time and by vanishing borders. Globalizing processes are dismantling obstacles to movement. As a result, there has been an increasing flow of people, goods, services, ideas, technologies and information across international borders. In simple terms, globalization is defined as a ‘process that widens the extent and form of cross-border transactions among peoples, assets, goods and services and that deepens the economic interdependence between and among globalizing entities, which may be private or public institutions or governments” (Lubbers 2000). Globalization is a basically connecting different country together as a global village.…
