GM Crops-Benefits and Effects
ESSAY 3: Some people think that genetically modified (GM) crops are positive development. Others, however, argue that they are potetially dangerous.
Discuss both these viewa and give your own opinion.

Generatically modified (GM) crops are now one of the most concerned issues because of its effects on the future of food production industry. While some people support the idea that GM crops will bring many benefits for human being, the others point out that it may create more dangers than we have known. This essay will elaborate on both sides of the topic.
On the one hand, using many new techniques in order to change the DNA, GM crops have many advantages, which overcome a normal crop by far. To illustrate, many studies confirm that GM crops can get higher productivity because of it capacity to resist to pets and chemicals. One of the benefits of GM crops which cannot be missed is that its products provide more nutrition such as vitamins, micro elements, etc. To be more specific, the vitamins which are found in GM soya bean are three times more than a normal one.
On the other hand, the drawbacks of GM crops are actually serious so that they could lead to great consequences in economy, society’s health and the ecosystem. To be more detailed, many countries may be dependent on the multinational companies because they cannot produce seeds for their own demand, thus their economies are more vunerable to crisis. Moreover, recent research proves that GM food make its consumers be more likely to get allergies and cancer, for example corn. In addition, growing GM crops has many negative effects on the ground and animals, that is irrevesible but extremely perilous. Actually, the pets which live around GM crops may die because of food lacking, and the soil could be contaminated.
In a nutshell, although GM crops have their own advantages, I strongly believe that the dangers they bring are great, so long term studies should be taken in order to prevent unforseen

Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMOs, are organisms that have been created through the gene-splicing techniques of biotechnology Although GMOs have been around for many years, it wasn’t until just recently that people have become more concerned with them. However, many companies that produce genetically modified organisms, like Monsanto, try to make believe that the products they produce are healthy and beneficial for the environment; while that may be true first glance, lots of anti gmo activists believe that these companies scam people into believing false information. In this essay, we will uncover the pros and cons of these genetically modified organisms and ultimately, come to the conclusion that GMOs may have downfalls for humans and the environment, but are economically beneficial.…

As a result, some of GM crops have strong vitality and they can spread out their genes by wind or insects. They can invade the areas of other plants and they can kill some kinds of beneficial insects. At that time, the ecosystem will be unbalanced and the environment will be destroyed and people will gain no benefit from that situation. In order to prevent the situation from deteriorating, we should stop popularize the GM foods and stop grow GM…

Genetic modified foods can be very beneficial to farmers who have loss crops from pests and insects that eat them. Originally farmers used chemical pesticide annually to kill pests however; they found that consumers would not eat the food as it was a health hazard. Also it had harmed the environment as the pesticide would poison the water supply. By having genetically modifying crops food can be protected from insects and pests. Bacillus thuringiensis(BT) Corn is an example of a genetically modified crop, which contains delta endotoxins and when insects are exposed to this the toxins will paralyse the insect’s digestive system and kill it. Hence GM foods can be very beneficial as the production of agriculture will be less damaged.…

They argue that the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) has discovered through animal testing that GMOs to lead dangerous health risks from accelerated aging and immune system problems passing by organ damaging and infertility. According to the physicists of the AAEM, there is a direct relation between GMOs and these health problems (Smith 48). In fact, in 2009, the AAEM urged all doctors to prescribe all their patients non-GMOs diets as, according to them, many of the cases where doctors could not identify the cause of the problem were caused by GMOs (Smith 48). Could one of these problem be allergies? Because another research discovered that GMOs could accidently transfer allergens from one type of food to another, like it was done with the Brazil nuts that contaminated GMOs soybean (“Should You Worry...” 5). Whatever the case is, the AAEM also discovered that the resistant genes of soybean could be transferred to bacterias inside our intestines, meaning that the dangerous proteins in GMOs can potentially be reproduced in our organism even once we have stopped eating GMOs (Smith, 48). Aside of the dangers of GMOs, they are still not the most effective way to produce food. According to Colin Tudge, a British scientist and writer, it has been proved that the best way to farm is the traditional way in which…

Many people are against Genetically modified foods because of the unknown long term effects and environmental effects. There were concerns about how GMO’s can affect other animals. “ GMOs may be toxic to non-target organisms, bees and butterflies being the most talked-about examples currently. Bees are hugely important in the pollination of many food crops.” (Emily Glass) If this true, this can be the biggest reason why GMO’s should be banned. Another reason how it could affect the environment is by making it a monoculture in our ecosystem. “When GM crops are planted, generally in a monocrop fashion, many heritage seeds are no longer used. The nature of GMOs means fewer weed flowers and, therefore, less nectar for pollinators. “ (Emily Glass.) Having a monoculture can result in quicker spread of diseases and can cause an economic disaster. They’re many possible consequences of genetically modifying foods but most of the possible consequences are predictions or theories.…

The controversial issue of genetically modified foods, commonly known as GM’s, has only gained the attention of millions, since it became a prominent and highly debated global issue. Genetically modified foods are created when the genes of an organism are engineered and modified to create a new or enhanced version of that organism. The process of using different genes from different sources to genetically modify foods led to public outcry and sometimes, praise. People in support of genetically modified foods claims it will enhance the quality of the food, improve the food’s resistance to pests and other harmful elements, lower food costs, and also increase food security for the future. However, those opposed to genetically modified foods claim…

Ensuring an adequate food supply for this booming population is going to be a major challenge in the years to come.” Many people would say that we should not use GMO crops because we can produce enough crops to feed the growing population but they are wrong. When a farmer uses a GMO crop vs. a non-GMO crop they are almost guaranteed something to harvest because the GMO crops can withstand floods, droughts, and they are more resistant to diseases and insects then non-GMO crops. Also by using GMO’s you do not have all of the hassle of conventional farming. In conventional farming, you have to worry about disease and insects because you have to use spray every so often to keep up with the insects and diseases while with GMO farming you do not have to worry as much or at all because the seeds are already disease and insect so they are more tolerable than non-GMO…

After various testing performed by various scientists and experts it “is clearly evident, GM technology can quadruple its maize output, more than triple sweet potato output and increase banana output by eight times” (Wambugu 84). With this much crop increases multiplied by all farms throughout the world mankind can cause world hunger to disappear and replace it with excess food so that none shall have to worry about starving or going hungry ever again. While there are some people who voice their concerns over the safety of genetically modified foods they can be assured that “rigorous testing takes place to ensure GM foods are safe” (Wambugu 82) and as a result “there is no evidence that genetically engineered foods currently on the market pose any human health concern or that they are any less safe than those foods produced through traditional breeding” (Hammerstrom 122). This means that any potential health risks are discovered and rectified before the food is even close to going on the shelves for consumers to purchase. With these potential benefits mixed with the genuine feasibility of achievement they all hold shows that taking the risks involved will be well worth…

The rising number of people and populations mean there are many more mouths to feed in the world. With 842 million people starving today (Price,1), farms and food production businesses are forced to create larger amounts of food with less space available, leading to an increased production in what can become a deadly diet, GMOs. GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms and involves both plants and animals that are chemically engineered to grow larger and last longer. This artificial “healthy” food is put into the diet of people, most often without their awareness. Animals are force fed antibiotics that should not be in their diet, and plants are poisoned with ingredients that are hostile to the human…
