Abstract
This project involves developing a successful therapeutic group design for adolescents of divorce ages 13-18. The first phase involves developing a well-rounded summary of the group. Building upon the summary a series of screening questions and a brochure for the group were developed. The criteria that would be used in the final selection of group members is also decided upon in this area of the project. The final phase of the project involves a narrative of the first two group sessions, discussing how three possible problems that may arise in the group sessions will be handled, and the dissolution of the therapeutic group. The design of this group aims to show a clear and concise outline for a group design model. This model, if used properly, should also aid in the success of a therapeutic group.
Group Summary
A small therapeutic group for adolescents of divorce ages 13-18. The group will consist of four to six members who will go through a screening process before final selection. Each participant will be expected to meet for two hours once a week on Thursdays from 5-7 pm for five weeks at a cost of forty dollars. The location for these groups’ sessions will be at the old courthouse and snacks will be served after each meeting. I have chosen this particular population because I watched how my own divorce affected my children. Had I known then what I know now about the benefits of therapy for adolescents I would have sought therapy to help them cope with this devastatingly life altering event. Establishing the parameters of confidentiality between the adolescents, their parents, and other individuals within the group will be set forth from the onset of the therapeutic process. Contracts that will be drawn in a language that the adolescent can understand and should be reviewed and signed by both parent and child. The group assistant will provide ice-breaking
