Going back to school at 38
I don’t know why I thought going back to school at 38 would be easy but it’s not. It has been hard for me to manage my time between work, family, and my studies.
Work takes up a large part of my day. Even though I have changed my schedule from full time to part time I am still in the office five days a week. I work at least 30 hours per week, 10 hours less than my original schedule. I am a processor and office manager for a very busy mortgage company. I process loan files, answer phones, greet clients, handle all correspondence, and process receivable accounts. At times all that can be super demanding. It is rare that I find any time to myself at work where I can take a break, catch up on personal things, or even do homework. As much as I wish I didn’t have to work I know that even through the hectic
Trying to juggle family while going back to school at 38 years old has been very hard. I am older now so that means that my children are older too. I no longer have little ones who demand so much of my attention. My children range between the ages of 19 and 16. I have one child in college and four in high school. You would think that things would be calmer and move more at a slower pace but things do not. Between football, band, booster club meetings, and kids’ work schedules things at home are very hectic. By the time, I get home from work

Death penalty also known as capital punishment is the ultimate price paid for committing a heinous crime against humanity. It is use today more conservatively (in the western world) than it was used in ancient days to punish all kind of crimes. Adultery, kidnapping and fornication to name a few are punishable by death in the Holy Bible and Holy Koran. Both the proponent and the opponent of death penalty yell and scream when the word death penalty is mentioned. The proponent may argue that it deters crime while opponent may argue that an innocent may be executed. In United States, death penalty is a law in 37 of the 50 of the states.…

As middle age lurked its unwanted presence I began to recognize how true and applicable the saying “life is too short” applied to almost everything the average middle-aged person set to accomplish. At age 42, I have no regrets in life. My parents set the stage for my desire for achievement and accomplishment, and I set out to do the same for my children. A person’s lifespan is their legacy; and I strongly believe that nothing happens by chance, all things happen as a consequence of some action. For example, my enrollment in this course was the consequence of years of work in a field that I no longer hold a passion. I started career as a high school girl’s basketball coach and somehow 22 years later managed to service 14 years in United States Air Force; two years as a State Correctional Officer; and seven years as a State Auditor. My academic career has seen me bounce from nursing to education and finally settling with business. My most important career as a mother is about to take new direction, as my youngest children begin their collegiate journey. So the question I asked myself was “What do I do now”? I recently obtained my Masters degree in Management and Leadership and was not sure I wanted to return to school so soon; however the profession that I’ve longed to do for so many years…

After careful thought and consideration, I made the desire to return to school into a realistic goal. I had finally come to the conclusion, that it was time to take control of my circumstances, rather than continue to let my circumstances control me. For the first time in twenty years, I have a window of opportunity to fit a degree program into my daily schedule. Returning to school had always been a desire of mine, but in the past, I did not think I had the time or the money to pursue a degree. I was a single mother, I was working all of the time, my children were very young, and half of my wages went to daycare expenses.…

One has to approach school as an added duty in one’s life. I must add an extra responsibility to my daily chores and activities. I am venturing into an activity I have not done any schooling for over 30 plus years now. School is something I must learn all over again. This changes our everyday routines to a point that we all must learn to work well with this new education. I am glad that in the past I had learned great tools to work with while working on these new responsibilities. Making it great while I was getting my A.S. degree in Florida Tech College out of Orlando, FL. Back then everything was paper and pencil or pen. Now I see an all new era of schooling and especially online. I force myself to get things done early, just like I do when I need to be somewhere for an appointment. I arrive much earlier than requested so I have time to sit and plan what will be going on at this appointment. I turn that into the same here with my online class. I don't like to be late for anything even dinner at home. Work on my college activities and required assignments take on the same aspect that I apply to my personal life. Both must be taken on with kid gloves. But as long as I keep in mind the goals created for school and stick to them I should have no trouble working out any obstacles that come my…
