What makes a good role model and how would I ensure that I acted as a role model for employees I supervise?
Good role models have a positive attitude and demonstrate a positive image for others and inspire others. They are enthusiastic and passionate about what they do, which motivates and enthuses other people. They accept responsibility and the consequences of their actions. They have a well understanding of themselves with regard to their personality style, characteristics, behaviours, learning preferences and so on. They learn to understand and respect others and to value diversity so that the organisation can benefit from the skills and knowledge of its diverse employees. They continuously develop their own skills, knowledge and competencies including skills relating to communication, active listening, interpersonal interactions, cultural awareness and acceptance of and management of diversity. They constantly provide appropriate feedback and reinforcement to workers and demonstrate competence with regard to task and job skills and management skills. They participate in suitable personal and professional development programs and activities. They provide opportunities for employees to develop their skills and knowledge.
