received an 80 on the paper, however professor ridgeway told me, that he knew I could I do better and expected a 90 on the next one. For the next paper, the argument essay, I chose a paper about a lady who decided after fifteen years of being a vegetarian, to stop being one. I had to research a lot to find sources for my argument. Not only that, I had to learn about vegetarian to I was informed on what I was reading. This paper, really began to expose me to the trails of research, how frustrating they can be, or rewarding, when you find that one thing you’re really looking for. After being very careful, with my grammar this time, and citations, it was time to put a close on this paper and turn it in. This time I received a 90, I was very happy about this. However, Doctor ridgeway look at me again, and again he told me I can do better. Although I didn’t think I could do better, someone telling you can, made me try harder.
The next assignment was my favorite, the Rhetorical Analysis. I wanted to do really well on this one. During the lecture in class, professor ridgeway was discussing the Title, Hook, and how to grab the attention of the reader. So being as creative as I am, I decide to let go of my abilities and really bring it home on this paper. My paper was on Martin Luther King, and his letter while he was incarcerated at Birmingham jail. I want the paper to honor him, so I rewrote the rough draft over about four times. Using every tool Professor Ridgeway taught me, how to cite, where the quotations go, and where the periods go. After turning my paper in, I was so shocked and surprised at how well I did, I received a 96 on
it. Prior to this class, I used to write sentences that would inappropriately end with the word “good”. No longer is this the reality for my pen to scratch such offenses of the English language. No, now my pen elegantly writes the word, “well”. These are all proof, that English 121 taught by Professor Ridgeway, taught me how not to write good. But instead, instructed me on how to write well.
