Good writing
Good writing is a very opinionated topic. In comparison to some of my favorite writers, I'd be considered a very poor writer. If my writing was compared to a second grader, my writing might actually be considered “good.” To be able to define what good writing actually is, one must first develop in their own head an idea of what they consider “good” to be. In my opinion, good writing is having the ability to write clear, accurate, grammatical, and logical structured sentences. Being creative with language, displaying your knowledge, and expressing your ideas all fall under what I consider to be good when writing. Most teachers give students the impression that good writing simply means writing that contains no grammatical errors, no misuse of punctuation, or any spelling mistakes. Good writing, to me, is more than just correct writing. Good writing is expressing your very own ideas and wording them in the right way to make your audience just as interested about the topic as you are. I don't believe one would need sharp writing skills for their work to be considered “good.” In my mind, all one would need to have in order for their writing to be considered “good” is confidence. A writer should enjoy what they're writing and eventually their attitude toward writing will improve as they grow more satisfied with their work. It isn't exactly always hard to tell whether a piece of writing is good or bad, you just have to read it. But, when you have to explain why the writing is good, it's a tad more challenging. It's easy analyzing the good things that a writer does if you consider “good” to just be correct. Anyone can tell when a paper is written perfectly by correct punctuation and proper grammar, but it's not so easy to point out when the writer is being creative with his/her writing and actually expressing their ideas. One should realize that a paper is written well and “good” when they want to learn to use the writer's techniques in their own work. When

Personally, I’ve always felt I was a decent writer in all aspects regarding research and personal narratives. Considering those are subjects that interest me and that I love to read about. I struggle the most when it comes to making my writing hold a deeper or hidden message when the topics I am told to write about don’t interest me. Having to do rhetorical analysis with old literature and having to explain the main idea was my number one struggle in AP language and composition senior year. But other than that I felt, throughout high school, I enjoyed writing and taking a majority of the writing classes my school had to offer, not only because it was required but because it was something that teachers and myself felt I did acceptable work.…

I would have to say my writing is average and its nothing really special about it. There is some things I want to work on to make my papers as good as they could be. My strength as a writer is that I stay on topic and I hit all the points I suppose to hit. One of my challenge is that I don’t go into detail about my topic. I usually get straight to the point and I will have to go back and add details to meet the word requirements.…

As a writer, there are things that I do well, but there are also things I could improve on to make my writing better. I’m pretty good at getting my point across, and getting people to understand what I’m trying to say. Another thing I’m good at is just writing the paper. Once I get started on a paper it is very easy for me to just keep writing until I’m done with it. However, when doing this I tend to not use the best grammar and be too wordy with my writing. I can definitely fix these issues, and continue to build on the things that I do well.…

In his essay, “The Importance of Writing Badly,” Bruce Ballenger encourages students to write freely and to not worry about finding the “perfect way of saying it.” I feel by saying this he means to not worry about what you’re writing and it may not necessarily be perfect, but that you write what you are thinking and continue writing even if it’s bad or may not make sense. He means to put all your thoughts down on paper and start from there. Ballenger gives his students permission to write badly. He expresses that “when the writing stops, so does the thinking.” He also states that he is far more interested in encouraging thinking than error-free sentences and concise, clear writing.…

The key topic I have learned that plays a huge role in the writing process is confidence. When writers are confident about their piece and they really love the way it has turned out, then it shows through the entire paper. I always tell my dance students that if they show the audience how much they love dancing, then more people will want to watch them. And I think the same goes for…

When it comes to writing I have noticed that some of my strengths are, that most of my papers are extremely detailed, I use proper grammar and punctuation as needed, I never go off topic in what subject I am writing about, I am very creative, proofread everything that I write down and my all of my paragraphs are organized with all information. When I am writing I like to make every sentence flow together so that the reader does not get lost or confused in any way when he/she is reading my work. I always make sure that there is enough information placed into each paragraph before starting a new. I do go into a lot of detail when it comes to writing especially if it is a research paper.…

    My Writing

Over the course of the years I have been in school, my writing has developed greatly. My writing has evolved throughout the years but this semester is when my writing became the best I have seen it. Due to my experience and my evolution of writing, my definition of good, effective writing may differ from other people’s perspectives. Defining something as “good” can be quite vague in the sense that good means many different things such as desirable, righteousness, and well. In my first and second “Theory of Writing” paper, I stated that the aspects that make writing good and effective are: having ideas that flow together nicely, not drifting off topic and to not be redundant with your word choice and sentences. I still at this point in the semester…
