This paper explores what an Information System (IS) is, how it works and how it benefits a company. Further on, it explains how the success of an information system is measured by working with the famous model TAM. Furthermore it explains how one knows whether an information system has failed. Specifically, it explores the reasons why Google Chrome has failed at Sanlam. I investigate this statement by using both qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques. By using different techniques and research I demonstrate that Chrome is underutilized. My findings explain why I have come to the conclusion that Google Chrome has …show more content…

4. How does one measure the success of an information system?
In the age of information that the world is currently in, not choosing the correct information system (IS) can lead to the failure of one’s organization. (Bo, 2013) So how do you define the success of one’s IS and how do you determine whether it has failed or succeeded?
The success of an IS has been measured in numerous ways. One way it is measured is by using the technology acceptance model (TAM). (Petter, 2008)
5. Technology Acceptance Model(TAM).
TAM is one of the most popular frameworks to measure The Acceptance of Technology. The reason for its popularity is that it has been proven accurate and effective by numerous studies.(Alharbi, 2014)
(Alharbi, 2014)
TAM deems that the two variables (U) and (E) are of primary relevance to whether a user accepts computers or not. (Davis, 1989)

Sanlam (as many corporates) have standardised on IE (Internet Explorer) because this is still considered the standard in the industry and most applications used have been build for IE (Internet Explorer).
The back-end server does not work with any other browser other than Internet Explorer.
However since Google Chrome’s release in 2008 Sanlam has encountered many issues.
When you take into consideration that Microsoft was the main browser since 1999(Living Internet,2016) you can deduce that it was the browser that laid the foundation of standards and conventions for browsers.
Google Chrome works with add-ons. Since IE does not support add-ons this causes major compatibility issues with Sanlam. Every time IE cannot support a feature or cannot make the same changes that Google Chrome makes Sanlam has more problems with getting their software to work with the latest web-based applications, costing Sanlam millions.
10. Has Google Chrome failed as a browser?
When one looks at the qualities that a successful browser would have then Google Chrome has not failed at Sanlam. (Rostampour, 2012) However when you look at the TAM model in user preference and user ease this makes it seem less successful. Finally, when you then look at the costs they have paid thus far because of Google Chrome and the amount of work that has gone into keeping their software up to date then yes, Google Chrome has failed as a successful information system at
