Google Chrome operating system (OS) is a Linux-based operating system from Google that is designed for Web-based applications and cloud computing. It stores data based on the principle of cloud computing i.e storing every data in the internet rather than storing in a hard disk. Chrome OS's origins are unclear. Jeff Nelson, a former Google engineer, claimed to have developed the original technology, code named "Google OS", described as "a web app-centric chopped-down Linux with a Chrome browser front-end”. Google released the source code for Chrome OS in July 2009 under the BSD license as part of a larger project called Chromium. This web-centric OS is so lean that boot time is about seven seconds. It works well with many of Google’s popular software applications. It is fast and less memory-intensive, enabling users to access the web in a few seconds. Chromebook
Chromebox Cr-48 prototype the Google’s first Chromebook, which was launched on December 7, 2010. The machine was named after Chromium-48 and designed by Google and manufactured by Inventec. It was not made available for sale to the general public. Approximately 60,000 Cr-48 notebooks were manufactured. It was distributed by Google between December 2010 and April 2011 to participants in the Chrome OS Pilot Program. The first two commercially available Chromebooks was manufactured by Samsung and Acer, were announced on May 11, 2011 at the Google I/O developer conference.
