Great War Letters Essay

I wanted to write you this letter because now the Great War is over and there are some topics that I wanted to address, and, since we haven’t talked since the war started, I wanted to make sure that you know that I am okay. As you most likely know, I’m still living and working in Washington County, Virginia. I haven’t had much involvement in the war efforts myself, however, I am waiting for my husband’s return from fighting in Europe, or a letter saying that he has passed away. Since he is gone, I have had to take care of the farm and work a low-salary part-time job, which has changed my everyday life a lot. Anyway, another reason that I wanted to write this letter was to discuss the changes in the economy because of the Great War.
In case you don’t know, munitions are military items, like weapons and ammunition. Any who, according to the same papers I was talking about earlier, New York has emerged as one of the great financial centers of the world. It has become equal in power or even greater in power that London, England! Unemployment rates have also decreased, which is probably why I am able to keep a part-time job right now. Consequently, I must now talk about the bad changes that have happened to our economy following the Great War. The same economic boom that I mentioned previously has caused high inflation. That means now all the things that I need to live are more expensive. I can hardly pay my rent anymore, let alone afford food! That just makes me more hopeful that my husband will come home. Anyway, inflation has caused a lot of businesses to lay off employees, even though the rate of unemployment is still very low. My cousin, Wyatt, lost his job at the post office because they can’t pay him anymore. That just makes me more fortunate to have a job, even though those who have jobs, like me, have reduced
