Green Tea Case Study
Compared with other kinds of tea, green tea is richest source of catechins. Epidemiological studies have showed consumption of green tea can reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases. However, due to the species of green tea and the health condition of participants, the amount of green tea being consumed per day varies from studies. Some experiments both in vitro and in vivo have been conducted in order to know how green tea reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases. However, the results are inconsistent and the mechanisms remain unclear. In this review article, the potential mechanisms will be showed from five aspects: lowering cholesterol level, inhibiting oxidation of LDL, improving vascular endothelial function, decreasing blood pressure and having anti-atherosclerotic effect. In the discussion part, the adverse effects of high consumption of green tea will be showed. To sum up, there is no conclusive evidences that green tea can reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases. Key words: Green tea, Catechins, Cardiovascular diseases

MMP is one of proteinases and plays an important role in tissue remodeling. MMP can have a positive effect on those injured arteries. By drinking green tea, the amount of MMP increases, which can repair atherosclerotic tissues. Besides, green tea was proved to have anti-atherosclerotic effect indicated by the reducing expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in atherosclerotic plaque ( Basu et al., 2007). The main function of VEGF is vasculogenesis. Decrease the expression of VEGF in atherosclerotic plaque can reduce the severity of

Coronary heart disease: Coronary heart disease is the build-up of plaque such as cholesterol and other fatty substances within the coronary arteries causing a reduced or no supply of oxygen to the heart. The process of plaque lining the coronary arteries is called arteriosclerosis. Coronary heart disease can be caused and triggered by many different factors. These include: Smoking; lifetime smoking roughly doubles your risk of developing heart disease because the chemicals in tobacco get into the bloodstream from the lungs and they damage the blood vessels and other parts of the body. It is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease; High blood pressure; the blood pressure can become dangerous the higher it gets. An increased of blood pressure is an increase of the force of blood against the walls of the arteries and the higher the blood pressure the higher the likelihood the walls of the arteries can become damaged. This can lead to stiffness of the arteries making them less flexible which can lead to the build-up of cholesterol, even after being used on cells the extra gets deposited inside the artery wall lining which can lead to atherosclerosis and this can occur from unhealthy diet intake. Your blood pressure and cholesterol level are also important. All people aged over 40 should have a cardiovascular health risk assessment’ usually available at your GP surgery. If you have a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease, treatment to reduce high blood pressure (hypertension) and/or cholesterol may be advised. Physical activity like exercising helps reduce blood pressure and the…

When we consume plants as food and beverages, the protective benefits of these flavonoids are entered into our bodies. Quercetin is found in a broad range of foods, from grape skins and red onions to green tea and tomatoes. Quercetin is attracting interest for its unique anti-aging and immune-boosting activities. There has been several studies show that organisms exposed to high levels of quercetin live longer and live healthier lives. Quercetin cardiovascular benefits lowering blood pressure and increasing plasma levels of nitric oxide. Higher doses of quercetin have shown the ability to modestly lower blood pressure. Heart muscle that is overloaded by excess blood pressure loses its responsiveness to nitric oxide. It becomes overgrown and eventually loses its ability to pump blood effectively, which could lead to early death or disability. Quercetin blocks pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy. A cardiovascular benefit of quercetin is its ability to inhibit platelet. Oxidant stress and inflammation trigger this excessive stickiness in platelets and blood vessel walls. If this is left untreated it could lead to a stroke or a heart attack if a blood clot…

The antioxidant content of acai berry exceeds far much greater than those found in tomatoes or pinapples, which effectively fights off cancer-causing body agents (also known as carcinogens), thus lowering one’s risk of cancer. Phytochemicals, on the one hand, are of great help to the cardiovascular system, reducing one’s risk of getting a heart attack or high blood pressure; and on the other hand, the amino acids (also known as protein) aid the overall muscular system in faster rebuilding of stronger tissues, as well as greater regeneration of healthier cells.
