Grendel Diagnosis Mental and physical illnesses can cause many issues for people and are often not taken as seriously as they should. They can pose a tremendous amount of future and permanent problems for whom they effect. If there is a thought that someone has an issue, they should immediately be tested for further diagnosis. Once diagnosed, help should be received to get the individual the medical attention they need. As a local doctor and psychologist, I have studied Grendel and concluded to diagnose him with anger management issues. It was rather easy to diagnose him because he exhibited most, if not all, of the symptoms. Anger is a normal emotion that occurs within everyone and even animals. This strong emotion can be awakened because of disappointment, annoyance, pain, or frustration. Anger management, however, is a stronger feeling that is more harmful and causes more damage. The illness releases hormones, such as adrenaline, to create a surge of power. This surge of power creates an overwhelming sensation that makes people lose their self-control and override their sense of reason and good judgment. In the novel, Grendel would feel as though he was indestructible and not make rational decisions. Grendel got upset when the Shaper died because he felt he should have feed on him, and despite his mother’s warning, he went to the funeral where Beowulf ripped off his arm. People, or animals, that have anger management issues are hostile and cannot help but attack or destroy property or others. It is extremely difficult for people to keep their emotions, especially anger, under control and not make decisions they will later regret. Grendel is an overall raging beast that cannot control his temper, doing whatever he wants when he gets mad about an event, person, or decision. There are many symptoms of anger management that can help a psychologist or doctor determine if a patient has this illness. One major symptom that
