One advantage is when working in a team everyone’s strength and expertise can be utilized and responsibility can be distributed. (Goodman, 2015) Typically, teams are formed by the expertise of each person that is need to get the job done. As the world famous Michael Jordan quotes, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” Another advantage according to Frost (2015), the sense of security and support a team creates may encourage employees to take more risks. Sometimes when working on a team project, that extra boost or knowledge transfer from other team members can lead to relationships that would benefit the team. When you have multiple people working on a project, this allows for many checks and balances to catch any mistakes or missing information that later can hurt the company. (Frost, 2015) Many customers and business partners may find it easier to communicate with a team rather than a number of individuals working in isolation. (Nordmeyer, n.d.) When working on a proposal the government would like to have one document from the company which means a member from each department needs to work together to deliver a final product that represents the company. If individuals were to put together the proposal document it runs the risk of not being well put together and not what the customer…

Team collaboration adds value to achieving success for the entire group because each member is working together towards a common goal. Without having a "common goal", the team cannot be successful. "Once general goals are in place" the team members can develop an educational strategy for assigned projects. Along with collaborating with one another, team members must trust each other to work together efficiently. Team members come from all sorts of backgrounds and have many different life experiences, which can create different perspectives when collaborating on educational projects. Team diversity is the beauty of learning teams; by generating various style of learning; ways of communicating, ideas and learned information over the years. A team member can be stronger in areas that his or her team members is not, and can help other team members strengthen their…

The Health Fair Presentation project was one of my favorite assignments so far in my college career. I have never really been a fan of group projects because there is rarely an even work distribution; and being the student that I am, I usually end up doing the most work. However, this was not the case in my groups project. We all did a fairly even amount of work. Our group started out with four people, which is already a smaller group compared to some other, and one student dropped the course half way into the project so we ended up doing our project in a group of three. There were five jobs to split up and we all picked up the slack to make sure the project was done on time, and done well.…

I do enjoy working with groups to do projects such as, mousetrap car, bottle rockets, and bridges because it gets done faster. Also we put our creative minds together to format one specific idea and we learn new things. Creating projects based upon engineering drawings are easier because we just have to make it come to life, but when we have to create the idea ourselves its harder and the process is longer. Innovating ideas such as bottle rockets and bridges are also interesting. You may find a way to…

Groupthink is a concept that was identified by Irving Janis that refers to faulty decision-making in a group. Groupthink is when you are placed in a situation where a group of people believe that the majority vote is the best idea, that everyone has the same idea so not everyone speaks up, and a limit to the individual thought process. The consequence of this process is that not all ideas or thoughts are express. This means that right or the best option to a problem is never expressed. In a group the majority vote makes one idea get voted over another which means that some people individual ideas get covered by the majority. This can cause the wrong option to be processed in a group. For example, in my first college class I had to do a group project and I left the video idea part to be voted on. I thought everyone had the same idea as me that the…

Through the process of writing my group's research paper, we faced frequent challenges which, in turn, led to several learning experiences. Although we were only a group of two, we split the research based on the main topics posed in the question we chose about the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust. It was difficult to narrow our research down to the specific topic of public responses because there was an ample amount of general information on both. Having both of us do research allowed for a more in-depth look at the topic. My ability to research improved with the second draft of the paper because I was able to see where I went off topic and change it back. Overall, my writing did not necessarily increase or improve since it was difficult for us to mesh both of our writing styles into one cohesive paper. I also need to become a better editor of my partner’s writing, as well as my own writing. We also struggled with organization in the rough draft. However, we were able to revise the final draft by including specific research that had greater relevance to the main topic.…

Group projects can be extremely difficult in many ways such as, getting all of your members in one spot at the same time or all agreeing on the same topic or goal. Group projects can sometimes seem like an added burden, however, I think that group projects help nursing students develop as professional nurses. I believe this because having a group project you not only have be committed to yourself, but you are committed to your group. You are reliable not only for your own grade, but for the grade of your members as well. You develop professional relationships with your group members giving you experience by working with others. Working in a group is related to a professional nurse because you have to sometimes think…

One definite advantage I can think of off the top of my head is the simple fact there is so many different trains of thought among diverse collaborations that what one person won’t be able to think of the next person might be thinking of. Adversity brings about added perspectives to an issue and also a better understanding of other points of view. Opportunities are also wide and there is interpersonal development and growth due to competence. Interpersonal development is yet another advantage; Students learn to relate to their peers and other learners as they work together in groups. This is definitely helpful for students who have difficulty with social skills. They can benefit from structured interactions with others. Variety in the way problems are framed and interpreted helps a group get unstuck when a single approach can’t produce a workable solution. Equity within a group is a definite advantage when working together on one thing as well.…
